Carnival Brazil, who's ever been?
I'm thinking of going. Who's ever been or lives there? I'm looking to go for the Feb 2005 Carnival. :thumbsup. Any tips are appreciated.

I've never been in Brazil but I plan to do it in the next year
|
We have parties like the carnival (with normal clothes, not costumes) all around Brazil, not just in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. And they aren't in February/March.
One of the biggest is in Fortaleza and it'll be on the last days of July and first days of August. |
I've never been there yet, but planning to visit my best friend from Brazil next February and in the same time to go to brazilian carneval.....:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I haven't been to Brazil yet. I might go to the Carnival in a year or two. It's definitely something I would like to do

Choose a big school of samba to go with in the parade though. If you get one with lots of fans the experience is even better because all the people watching will be singing along, dancing and it will be some emotion! You probably can choose the school. Try "Beija Flor", "Mangueira" or "Imperatriz Leopoldinense". Those are very popular schools of samba. kisses, Milena |

I called a few travel agencies and they seemed shocked that I was going alone. LOL. They said "do you have friends you can stay with? It's not safe." I'm pretty street smart but maybe their right.

Hey, I was just posting about this yesterday in the other Brazil thread!
No, I haven't been but that is the one place/time I want to go, more than anywhere else. I've traveled to Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, but I've never made it down into SA. I'd settle for going anytime if that was my only option, but I *really* want to go during Carnival. :) |
The best tip is to act like a local, don't go out looking like you have you pockets full of greens.
Other than that, bring a good English/Portuguese dictionary and have fun! If you could team up with a Brazilian your vacation would be way better, cause you don't want to waste your time in some boring tourist cruise, a local could show you the right spot to have fun. Last Carnaval we received guests from Holland, Turkey and Germany, we had a blast. Maybe next year we'll head up to northeast, like Jer said... Fortaleza or some other HOT city up there! :thumbsup |

rio is great, but a very dangerous city for gringo tourists.
do not carry anything of value, or wear anything around your neck, do not carry any expensive camera, and carry minimal cash, and no wallet. have seen many people ripped off in broad daylight by favella kids. |
