Philadelphia Wants to become a Gay Destination
In Greek, Philadelphia translates to "brotherly love." If the city's new advertising campaign is successful, it may see lots of that. The city is trying to use ads to tap into the $54 million US gay travel market.
The first ad that came out shows a man dressed in colonial wear composing a letter for his beau as he stands near Independence Hall. A woman looks at him but walks by. Next thing you know a man greets him and he gives him flowers. Philadelphia is trying to show that its daytime and nighttime attractions are gay friendly. Its new slogan is "Philadelphia - Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay." The city will spend a million over 3 years on this campaign. :glugglug who's from philly? :1orglaugh |

i once did a study on how gay films affect their viewer's perception of them. i found out that when the media show bstereotyped roles of gays (like drags ans stuff like that) chances are, the community becomes more hostile to them. but if the audience were shown progressive films whichtackled, say, gay health and civil rights issues, their opinions were altered.
philadelphia (the film) was great. it opens up a lot of topic which the society once considered taboo. it also showed us that gays are humans, just like everybody else, yet they suffer degradation probably more than the rest of us privileged macho males do. im not gay, but i know lots of gays who are in fcat in monogamous relationships. i salute this move. philadelphia rocks. btw, i got an A for the study. |
