If you see someone promoting a sponsor and you want to check it out, do you remove the guy's affiliate ID from the link?

Yes.
If i sign up for a trial, then the sponsor has to pay him $30 and i spent $2.99 and cancel asap.
And then the sponsor complains that so many people cancel trials and uses that as an excuse to reduce payouts :warning

In that case i see no problems with that, i would say everyone should join sponsors through ref. links
