if it were me, I would have thanked him for the compliment.. patted him on head and sent him on his way with no information..

I mean after all.. he was asking very innapropriate questions.. much the same way a child would.. I don't blame people for being childish.. but I don't like to encourage it either.

One more thing I'd like to add

When you're faced with a situation that makes you angry or annoyed .. and you don't want to just ignore it.. I think it's best to ask yourself, "how can I best profit from this?"

I've fallen back on this idea many times when dealing with difficult people, and asking myself that question always proved to be a good way to decide on how to handle things.

There are times when I've been tempted to sling mud back at someone who just did the same to me.. then I think.. how can I come out on top here?.. slinging mud back is almost never the right answer, because then I loose too.

He's actually written back and said I was right and thanked me for my honsty. I think we are sometimes a little too nice to new guys, which makes it al look very easy.

There's a couple of ways to take it.

I think you should be flattered that he thought you were one of the "best" and wanted advice from "The Man" himself.

Maybe he should have been honest and just said, Paul... I don't know shit... but I want to. Will you teach me, or at least get me pointed in the right direction.

You know, in my design business we offer consultation, and I get a lot of newbies coming to me asking to pay me for essentially setting up their business and telling them how to run it. I don't accept many of these types of clients and usually give them a lecture and send them on their way. Making money is cool.. but being able to sleep at night is cooler.

Actually being this way has made my business much more profitible in the long run.
