Napster has announced that their planning to charge subscription fees sometime in the near future.

I know. I just read it this morning. This sucks big time. But they have talked about it for some time now. Ever since that company bought Napster they have been talking about earing some $$$ of it.

It's a German company too. Bexman its your fault you fucker.

They make up there own grave. As fast as they charge fees, more than 2/3 of the users is gone. The paying rest won't stay long if they have a very bad choice, because noones online anymore... I'm just lookin' which program will take over napsters role in the future...

OK, paying for napster is bad, but if they didn't work together with Bertelsmann napstar would be closed because of violenting actual copyright law... the question is, whats better...

Damn those Germans. They screw up everything. They sure know how to get everyone pissed at them.

When they first started talking about this months ago, they said it would be a nominal fee, like around $5. a month. If they stick to that, they'll be ok. I think most people could scrape that together.

Napster is a beautiful thing because it's making recording companies realize that they can't steal the majority of the profit from the artist anymore. The artists can now promote and distribute music themselves. The artist (Prince included) can now get the majority of the money and they fucking deserve it.

If I'm going to have to start paying for music again it sure won't be for MP3's encoded at 128, which the majority of the stuff you find on Napster is. Maybe if they enforced a minimum bit rate of 192 or something.

Well napster was here since long ... the new one like scour went down after some weeks ... napster is staying.

Scour could have stayed but they did not want to go thro the same problems as napster.

I guess that blows their only "excuse" for facilitating the illegal piracy of music.

*shrug* I dunno. I like Napster because I can find all of that obscure music that you just can't find in stores anymore, or had a hard time finding anywhere. I also like it because I can download songs from a CD I plan on buying to see if it's actually worth the $20 bucks for the CD. Now I know of 4 CD's that I plan on buying that I know will be worth the money and effort to purchase.

napster wants to charge up to 15 dollars for its use... i think its ok... for $15 you can buy one cd or download 250 musics/month...

I'd be willing to pay $5-$10 per month for Napster. I've got about 300 tunes off of Napster and I only burned 2 outta those and ended up buying MANY cds after hearing new tunes from Napster. I still think that it's stupid that record companies think that Napster is a bad thing. There ARE people out there like me that use it to sample bands before buying. I own over 1000 cds, if there's a good cd out there, I want the original, not a burned copy of it. I'm sure that there are many other people that do burn though. One way or another people are gonna find ways to download music and burn it anyways. Like people say, there's other methods.
