New window or not?
What do you think is the best way to link to sponsors, so that their site opens in a new window or not?
Have you noticed any difference between click-through and sign-up programs, in this case? How do you get better result? What do AP think about this? |
read the AP terms.

Most click thru sponsors do not allow you to open them in a new window. You need to read the rules of every sponsor very carefully. Not following them is a sure way not to get paid.

Personally, I think it works against you to open a sponsor in a new window. Your still leaving them options once thay click on that sponsor. I try to give them the options at my site, once they go to a sponsor, they've made a choice, why tempt them with more options? More and more sponsors are paying webmasters for sign-ups on exit consoles from the sponsors site. So even if they do not sign-up for that first site, they very well may sign-up on an exit console. I get quite a few sign-ups this way. I say once they go to a sponsor, let the sonsor do their job. You've done yours by getting them to the sponsor. That's is of course just My opinion. |
I find that opening a window that blurs to the background and has a bunch of banners on it (to sponsors who allow this anyway) is a great way to make some extra change. The surfer usually doesn't realize that this has opened and happily surfs through your site, checks things out, clicks on stuff, and when they finally get bored and start closing things out they come across this site that they don't remember opening but it has more stuff they may want to check out. I agree. Once the surfer has clicked on your sponsor, why give him/her the option of coming back to your site? All they can do is download more of your free pics and eat up more of your bandwidth... unless they happen to click on another sponsor...
Now traffic swapping is a different story altogether. If you open the swap in a new window and the surfer doesn't like it, they surfer can then close that window and return to your site, where they can either hit another swap or (god willing!) a sponsor. ------------------ INSTANT WEBSITE! most sponsors do not allow to open in a new window... of course, if you find one that allows it, open it on a new window...
