IT'S OFFICIAL: Draft in '05

Pending Draft Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005
The Draft will Start in June 2005

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan - fiscal year 2004.

The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

May they draft GFY Noobs first.

angeleyes 06-03-2004 10:38 AM

Drafting women this time too. I'm glad I'm old for once. :BangBang:

I don't believe in the draft. :321GFY

On the flipside, it can't be that hard to get out of it if you were drafted and that set against it. They will oust you for conditions such as depression or panic attacks which are kind of hard to disprove you have. :2 cents:

Katlicious72 06-03-2004 10:39 AM

I'm glad I served my 8 years already and that I'm over 30 now. Damn this will suck for some kids that don't agree with this war and have to go. Fuck!

Michael O 06-03-2004 10:40 AM

a draft WILL NOT happen.

Drunken Sam 06-03-2004 10:51 AM

said it before, will say it again, not gonna happen

anti-draft will turn into anti-war, people for the iraq war aren't gonna go for it

if anything, i can see anti-war folks supporting this so it'll get more media attention so more people will become anti-war

YOU PEOPLE ARE MORONS

This legislation was sponsored by Sen. Ernest F. Hollings [SC], A DEMOCRAT so for all you that think this is a huge Bush/Ashhahahahaha conspiracy get a clue!

And for anyone else who doesn't understand how the government works, the bills need to be VOTED on and passed in the Senate and the House.

Use your brains for once, and don't just be sheep.

crockett 06-03-2004 10:59 AM

how is it official as it looks to me to be the same "pending" bill that's been around for at least 6 months. Doesn't look like anything new to me

have a look at this, DarkDope:

A list of the co-sponsors of HR163
If you had a clue, you'd understand that this is just more liberal race baiting/class warfare and has no bearing on reality.
Just more liberal bullshit.
Kinda like this thread.:thumbsup

I only read the last article, but it was a VERY good one. Answers a lot of questions about the feasability of a draft.

Thanks for the links.

Lykos 06-03-2004 11:39 AM

Whatever...:glugglug

dougeetx 06-03-2004 11:43 AM

Why doesn't the US just leave people the fuck alone! Then, we wouldn't have to draft! What a novel concept!

stev0 06-03-2004 11:47 AM

have you read the other articles on that site? i don't know how reliable that looks.. haha

BRISK 06-03-2004 11:47 AM

Send the wiggers to war please

Jace 06-03-2004 11:48 AM

um..this thread says official, but the article says pending...didn't anyone else notice that? LOL

Sarah_Jayne 06-03-2004 12:22 PM

okay, can't believe I am about to side with 12clicks on something but honestly some times I read threads and get flashbacks to the kids that made fun of me for paying attention in poli sci class. Maybe we need to play that cartoon on how a bill becomes law for people.
