Houdinis Secrets Revealed..........

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TRAVEL/0....ap/index.html

do you agree with them being revealed, or should they have stayed a secret ?

EviLGuY 06-03-2004 02:42 AM

They should probably have stayed a secret imho.

People know its not real.. its lame when they know how they have been fooled. Leave em wondering.

:2 cents:

Well duh!

A new exhibit, "A.K.A. Houdini," opened Wednesday at the Outagamie Museum, revealing how Houdini, handcuffed inside a sack and locked in a trunk, somehow managed to switch places with an assistant on the outside.

(IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW IT, DO NOT READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.)

Among other things, the trunk has a side panel that allows someone inside to sneak out.
no shit Sherlock . . .. who would have thunk it?

Edguy! 06-03-2004 02:46 AM

I think it's good

Magicians say their code of ethics prohibits revealing secrets to the public.
Only cos theyll need to think up new tricks and stop being repetitive :1orglaugh

Blinky 06-03-2004 02:49 AM

I can't wait to read all about it, though it's spoiled it really. Should have stayed a secret IMHO.

mastamind 06-03-2004 02:54 AM

its good now he will come up with new beatter tricks

pure energy 06-03-2004 02:56 AM

It won't be nice to know the secrets to tricks they do. It'll make the whole thing boring. :(

like it says in the article, you may know the mechanics of the trick its still a neat thing to see it in practice, and have it done right :winkwink:

Houdinis secrets arent that special.
in the book "the life and many deaths of Harry Houdini" they talk a lot about how he used to just exaggerate shit = and that fooled the public.

Now just remember he lived in an age where peopel were less educated (for the most part) there was no access to TVs and magazines or such for information.
All he used to do was stick a really big padlock on and peopel thought it must be REALLY hard to get out just because the padlock was BIG (which actually makes it EASIER to get out)

ppl were just more stupid and gullible back then.
My ex is a successful magician here in Oz I used to assist him - I got offered a job to work with Silver grand Magic as the assistant and I can tell you the 3 most basic principles of magic:

Black on black is invisible
smoke puffs are your best friend
there's no obstacle a set of felixible identical twins cant fix :glugglug

LOL the metamorphosis secret has been out for years!

Magicians have been doing it non-stop ever since he did.

I grew up wanting to be a magician and I remember reading books on how the trick was done when I was a kid.

hell yeah you know as a kid I think it's fun if you think it's magic
as an adult i think it's more fun if you DO know and you can watch to see how well the magician pulls the trick off

The trick really isn't done in "3 seconds"

IT's all going on while they are "preparing."

ONce the lid is shut on the box or whatever the magician is placed in he's already working on getting out of the shackles while they secure the box on the outside.

As soon as that's complete he's already ready to get out of the trunk...while she stands on top of the trunk she's adjusting the curtain he's out you just can't see him...She pulls up the curtain NOW YOU CAN START COUNTING THE SO CALLED 3 SECONDS.
During that time is when they make the switch....now while they try to unshackle the box she's inside putting the cuffs/shackles on herself.

thats just my opinion

for me its at to a point where I can just watch a trick and know who's its done without being told because most tricks follow standard formats
so I REALLY enjoy it when I see a really clever new trick.,. but of course 5 minutes later it annoys the shit out of me trying to work it out :1orglaugh
