why is there no netflix for cd's?

I can see the RIAA having a fit. Any other reasons? I wouldnt mind renting some cds.

Because they are so easy to copy.

StuartD 06-02-2004 09:51 PM

would you really listen to a cd and then send it back?

Not yet,, too much data. Not everyone has burners, dvds are more expensive. Maybe in a couple years.

for an average consumer? hell no!

Pornwolf 06-03-2004 03:34 PM

A DVD takes too long to copy even for experts unless you are just making a standard DVD to DVD copy. They are safe for another couple of years. CD's on the other hand take only 20 minutes to copy.

No it doesn't. : )
although it's nowhere where CD's are..
an encode/reauthor and an 8x burn is pretty quick. takes maybe 20 - 30 minutes total.. in which time you can acquire a 300dpi cover, a suitable label, print them, trim the printed cover, and insert it into a blank case. : )

its much more process intensive though.... you almost need a dedicated machine to do it.... which is fine, if you're bored:winkwink:

DVD Shrink, pioneer A07 8x (with hacked firmware), prodisc 4x media on a p4 2.8 (1.5g) using a drive other than C: to handle the rips/temporary files.

If compression is too great (usually anything below 90% (though 80% you still get pretty flawless picture)) i strip menus, extras, and non english languages), and if that's doesn't help, i'll split a long movie over multiple discs with no compression.

at least til they come out with consumer dual layer discs.

of course I don't condone any of the actions I described in this thread and you should always buy your DVD's from the store.
