The Atomic bomb...

I was watching the Hiroshima bombing on the history channel, that's some fucked up shit killing 100,000 people in matter of seconds.

http://www.disastershelters.net/imag...urces/bomb.jpg

The atomic bomb, nicknamed "Little Boy", which was dropped on the Hiroshima City.

It was estimated that the bomb blast traveled about 3 km

The atomic bomb, nicknamed "Fat Man", which was dropped on the Nagasaki City.

It was estimated that the bomb blast traveled about 5 km

They are a bit smaller in size but much stronger now in days, that makes me wonder.

Worst creations? Hell no! If it wasn't for the Mutually Assured Distruction situation that occured after WWII, there would have almost certainly been a WWIII that would have killed tens of millions more people in the last 50 years. The Nuclear age has kept the peace on a global scale that no other force could have.:2 cents:

That's true, they might have killed 180k in Japan but that saved millions of lives in the future.

You guys weren't around in 1963 when Khrushchev sent mrbm's to Cuba a mere 90 miles from the US mainland. That was the closest we ever came to a nuclear war with Russia.

Kard63 06-02-2004 09:21 AM

I believe it killed 66,000 almost instantly.

Edguy! 06-02-2004 09:26 AM

I have a new found love of mushrooms :)

KMR Stitch 06-02-2004 09:29 AM

FACT:

The bomb never reached the ground.

To get the best kill ratio the bomb exploded 100's of feet before it touched the groud.

Doc911 06-02-2004 09:53 AM

That mushroom cloud is awesome. I never get tired of seeing it

Precisely.... People need to understand sometimes force is necessary to attain some form of "peace". The world has been at war since the beginning of man.

Anyone hoping for a peaceful planet with daisies sticking out of everyones hair is kidding themselved...

Hiroshima had ~15 kilotons, now imagine a thermonuclear bomb with 50 megatons (I think thats the max the russians had)

A blast of 50 megatons, the whole world would feel it.

The Tsar Bomba had its yield scaled down by replacing the uranium fusion tamper (which amplifies the reaction) with one made of lead to eliminate fast fission by the fusion neutrons. If detonated at full yield, the force of this bomb would have been approximately 6,500 times the 15-16 kiloton bomb detonated at Hiroshima and would have increased the world's total fission fallout since the invention of the atomic bomb by 25%.

thats an interesting way to look at it. some people said the americans only dropped those bombs to make sure russia didn't turn against them, which some say was bullshit.

RedShoe 06-02-2004 10:37 AM

This is not an atomic bomb image. It's from the first H bomb. There is a huge difference.

They went from Kilotons to Megatons with that bomb. I have several documentaries on these bombs. I have AWESOME footage from a bomb set off underground in alaska that sent a ripple thru the ground like a rain drop on flat water. It's amazing. The alaskan bomb registered as a 5.X earthquake. And created several aftershocks. The island that the put it under rose over 20 feet during the blast.
