Has GFY warped your sense of what's appropriate?

It seems most of the time there is this attitude of "it's gfy what did you expect?"

Most of us here spend a lot of hours inside, in front of our computers and our world has become the net, IM programs, and message boards...and because of that I think people tend to forget that what seems "appropriate" here does not carry over into the rest of the world.

People here post some of the sickest, twisted pics and videos they find, or post some of the most twisted, hateful words they can muster and in most cases to draw a sense of pleasure and even accomplishment.

I imagine while sitting with my extended family members at family gatherings what they would think if they knew I existed in this world..not porn..but a world that laughs at the use of *******, and goatse pics or uses someone's death pics and video for entertainment purposes.

You can try and pretend that it's "normal," but get out a bit and you'll find that it's only "normal" here.

depends, i have friends outside of this biz that show me things that havent even been posted on gfy that are absolutely crazy. and most of the language my cousins use is worse then this board.

but in everyday life, amongst my regular family and in general, i never deal with any of this stuff at all....:glugglug

Very true.. GFY tends to warp your perspective a bit. Its human nature to be affected by stuff you read constantly though.

True. Now and then I'll see something on GFY that makes me crack up.. an Owned pic or something, and I almost forward it to someone before I realize they really wouldn't see the humour in it.

BV 06-01-2004 06:24 PM

"it's gfy what did you expect?"

serious 06-01-2004 06:24 PM

yeah you are right

i do not find horrific death pics entertaining at all though, its just sick.

cali_22 06-01-2004 06:24 PM

you could say that:Graucho

Different message boards tend to bring out different parts of me. Here I'm arrogant and sharp with people on other boards I tend to be more helpful and self-effacing.

You said it right!

Take your topic
Has GFY warped your sense of what's appropriate?

And change it to have WE warped GFY and the sense of what's appropriate.

The total is no better than the sum of it's parts..US!

I call it the GFY Syndrome.

SykkBoy 06-01-2004 11:37 PM

I almost told one of my kids today "stop crying" and when my youngest son fell and scraped his knee, I said "OWNED!"

GFY is evil

MetaMan 06-01-2004 11:38 PM

it's the internet, this IS NOT the real world, and should not be related in the real world. The internet is supposed to be the maximum in freedom of speech.

This will never change no matter how many hours you spend here.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech...it has something to do with people thinking that the things they see here are normal or okay...some of them are...but a lot of it isn't.

Doc911 06-02-2004 01:13 PM

I was warped long before GFY came around

hahah, you know my kids
they are worse than GFY sometimes

my youngest thinks he's Yngwie Malmsteen or something and I went to show him a chord progression and messed it up and he said "smoothe move, monkey ass". He's a week away from 9 and already almost preapred for GFY ;-)
