The reason why the US is not the "Greatest Country in the World"

In just one word: idiots.

Would you like to add something to that list?

digi 06-01-2004 05:31 PM

I think you're proving well that Brazil isnt the greatest place either.

Im sure there are better reasons than that.....

benc 06-01-2004 05:37 PM

USA has its faults but its still the best thing out there.

One problem is probably the whole melting pot thing dosent really work.

Wheras you look at countrys with a more homogenous population and see them advancing faster, Japan, China, some scandinavian and european ones.

Another problem is the sensationalism of the media. A jerry springer type mentality, and political correctness out of control.

Country divided too much politcally. There used to be a time when people did the right thing and made the right choices, and not based on such partisan thinking.

The people that make 30 Bush threads a day will look the other way no matter what Kerry does. And a lot on the right will look the other way no matter what Bush does.

There desperately needs to be a legitimate independent candidate, and not just some kook like Nader.

Seems like Brazilians would not need porn...? what with all the naked girls at the beach, live and in 3D. :) It is a carefree sexually open society (easy to get laid), and prostitution is legal... All bad for the porn biz, which relies on sexually-repressed customers inhibited in their homes alone at the computer.

I think they do especially with all those STDs running in mass around the country.

Won't be too long til they get to Africa's level in terms of amounts of STDs.

Brazilians love porn. The problem is that we don't have processors with affiliate programs like ibill/ccbill/epoch, so most of the sites used to run with merchant accounts.

Brasil is the largest country in South America so they have the most AIDS but percent wise it is still lower then the US.

HIV AIDS - deaths (per capita)

"Recognized as a regional and worldwide leader in HIV/AIDS work, Brazil has been proactive since its first AIDS case, and, manufactures low-cost versions of antiretrovirals (ARV) within its borders. It has provided ARV therapies free of charge to all HIV infected patients who meet the national medical guidelines for treatment since 1996. Currently, an estimated 125,000 persons receive ARVs."

This is a typical (trained/taught) repressed american attitude.. They must have / deserve diseases... God will punish the fornicators, etc.

in reality the percent of the population infected is:

Brazil 0.7%
United States 0.6%

while statisitcally, that's basically the same. IMO even a +0.1% tradeoff is worth not having to deal with a bunch of fundamentalists screaming and crying all the way to congress over a nipple being shown in public.

Contrary to what our corporate/consumer culture tells us here, life isn't all about money and owning junk. There are 'quality of life' issues that have nothing to do with economic advantage. The community around you.. the type of people you interact with everyday... how they treat eachother and take care of eachother.. make life better/more enjoyable, or worse/more difficult .. are IMO more important than numbers displayed in your personal bank account.

umm.. http://www.worldsexguide.org/brazil.html

Quote:

Prostitution is legal. When the "First Congress of Prostitutes" was held in Rio in the eighties, it had the backing of the Ministry of Culture and of the Secretary of Culture of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Pimping and trading in women is illegal. Maintaining a "place for sexual liasons" is technically illegal, but the law is not enforced.

Prostitution is ubiquitous, both in rural areas and in the cities. There are street prostitutes, women working out of bars and hotels, massage parlors, mixed saunas and escort services, all advertised in the local papers.. Many of the encounters take place in so called "motels", which are nothing but "places for sexual liasons" and usually payed for by the hour (about US$ 20/hour).
from everything I've heard/read, your government does not jail women who sell sex (or the men who pay for it). Is that incorrect?

Maybe on the books it's not legal, but if noone gets punished then that's as good as legal IMO.
