'The Draft will Start in June 2005

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections..'

It has been posted several times...and I do not think the draft should have been done away with in the first place...for several reasons.

Yes because you never know when you'll need to amass an army to invade some country with marginally effective forces of their own.

No it does not suck to be in the GREATEST COUNTRY in the world! What would suck is to live in a country that does nothing but sit on their hands and does nothing to help anyone!

Yes, that's right... Canada sits on their hands and does nothing to help anyone.

If there is a problem meeting enlistment goals, somebody had better figure out what the hell they're doing wrong. If drafted, my business would fall to shit. That's nice.

Give me the qualities that make the US the "Greatest country in the world".

evildick 06-01-2004 05:05 PM

They should just make some more free downloadable first person shooters, that'll get the kids to enlist.

People risk their lives to get here - we must be doing something right :winkwink:

On America's Army? I've never actually tried it yet but it looks pretty cool.

I think them using it as an enlistment tool must have backfired though, since most of the FPS fanatics I've met are couch potatoes. (myself included)

Peaches 06-01-2004 05:10 PM

BTW. the USAF has already reached their fiscal year ending 9/30/2004 recruitment goals. Long before the military starts drafting they can ease up on enlistment requirements. :thumbsup

That happens in Canada too - not to mention how many people ducked the last draft by coming to Canada in the passed. How about during slavery, all the people that ducked to Canada.

Are we doing something right?

People used to risk their lives to get from one half of Berlin to the other... doesn't mean it was the greatest place in the world.

FlyingIguana 06-01-2004 05:11 PM

so now they're gonna throw inexperienced young people into a country where americans shouldn't be, all because the president had a grudge against saddam?

vietnam was about helping the south vietnamese, now whether you were for or against it, it was a good cause. but iraq? hand the country over to the people and let people in iraq sort the mess out, but give them enough support to make it themselves. not just fuck the innocent people over like afghanistan years ago.

this is just idiotic

SeTec 06-01-2004 05:12 PM

uhh, yeah, im not in favor of that. but im 22, still in college, they probably wolln't draft me. at least thats what helps me sleep at night

Read the article again...

"College and Canada will not be options. "

::::EDIT::::
"Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year. "

I will be happy to run your sites while you are gone, and I can wire the money to whatever prison you are guarding.
