Increasing link popularity (PR)

Sup people?

I had an idea how to help everyone increase their link popularity (PR), so I created a free non-profit service to do just that. It?s kind of experimental, but in theory I?m 98% sure it will work if we can get enough sites to participate.

The way it works is everyone has to host a links page (maintained by us), with links to all the other participating sites. This way your links will be on all participating site?s links pages, and their links will be on your site?s ALPN links page. The links page we provide for you to host is not for surfer traffic, but rather it?s strictly intended for search engine spiders to help build better link popularity for all.

This is a fully automated solution, so once you get setup you won?t have to mess with it again. As new sites signup, your links will automatically appear on their site, and their links will automatically appear on your site. As you already know, the more links you can get to your site, the better your link popularity. So give it a try, and let?s make this work!

If you have any questions, just let me know.

swami 06-01-2004 12:17 PM

Be warned this will fail.

davethetruth 06-01-2004 12:17 PM

Didn't they do this in 98? I think it eventually got banned from google.

hehe.. I've spammed FFA's and they worked great for a while, and not any more. Then I did matt's script message boards, and they worked for a while, and not anymore. So I think if I spammed blogs, it would suffer the same fate of work for a while, and then not anymore. :(

why will it fail? If sites all legitimately link together, then it should work.. In theory anyway.. right?

It seems to me to be a big clusterfuck in the makings. Isn't there so many variables that make a recip link arrangement work out properly. I mean, if you are bleeding PR out to all these sites because you are doing things right and not getting it back, you are worse off. For instance, you can start with potential issues like Google et al excluding pages that are called "links.html" to obvious ones like inbound links from lesser PR than you may not help and may indeed hurt your PR.

Linkfarms are not the way to go to increase your PR or link base. Trading with RELEVANT sites is the most important factor, not volume of links.

It will fail , 10000% :)

Nothing personal, but I just don't like anyone else having control over the links on my page.

You?re right, there is a possibility that it will hurt link PR, but I think it?s a very slight possibility. This is an experiment, so it could go either way, but I think enough sites all liking together has greater potential to increase PR, not decrease it. The only way to find out though, is to try it and see what happens. I honestly don?t know what will happen, but it?s something I have never seen tried on a large scale, so it?s worth a shot.

What I have seen is people with hundreds of domains all linking together, and that no longer works because they?re all hosted on the same host, or class C. So I think that?s why they are able to catch them, and stop that from working.

That?s understandable, but it?s not a page you?ll even want surfers to see. I will be making sure all the links we include are quality links, so we don?t hurt the chances of this experiment working.

cayne 06-01-2004 12:52 PM

A higher PR wouldn't be bad...still at 5 :(

Isn't it an experiement that could be fatal for many sites. I mean you are experimenting with webmasters livelihoods. Google is quite clear in what they consider spamming, bad neighborhoods...I thought and will drop you potentially if you are doing things intended to contravene their rules. I am not sure but weren't people dropped for spamming logs and guest books to get more backlinks? I am not an expert to know how Google will look at this or how they penalize sites that are trying to rig their algorithm but I suspect it ain't pretty.

Get a domain you are not using

add some keywords

gallery links

a few pictures

then, give the link thing a try.

How hard is that? You don't have to try it on every domain you own.

ALPN_Rick 06-01-2004 01:23 PM

I think the most important thing needed to make this work is quality sites. If google or other SE?s see that all the links are BS spam links, then there will be a problem; and rightly so. But I think as long as all the links are good ligit sites, then there should be no problem.

This is a ligit linking network, and I?m not trying to do anything funny here. I?m just making it easy for people to trade links, so hopefully we can all increase our site?s PR.

That's a good point! :)

In theory, there's no such thing as "legitly" trying to increase your PR. SE's don't like SEO period. Their goal is to return relevant results. Anything you do to manipulate your serps just pisses them off.

Of course manipulating serps is my business, but what I do stays in the privacy of my own home.
