Euro webmasters: what do you do with checks?

I received a check for like 29 dollars. Really annoying. What do you do with such lousy amounts? Do you still cash them or is there another trick? Like maybe hold on to them and cash them while in the US? (is that possible?)

Thanks!

alexg 06-01-2004 04:12 AM

my bank takes $3 per check comission

so, i would cash it....

but I wouldn't go all the way to the bank to cash such a lousy amount...wait till you get some more checks, and just cash them together

i have a $15 check laying around lol

okdesign 06-01-2004 04:15 AM

my bank takes 2% comission, min. $1.50
great for small checks! :-(

Marie 06-01-2004 04:20 AM

What I've heard (haven't cashed the other checks i have yet... should do that soon!!) it costs 10 euro per check.

Icy 06-01-2004 04:57 AM

I usually edit my profile at my sponsors and set the minimum payout to $500, then if they can, i ask for wires insted of checks. I hate to receive $25 checks, my Spanish banks get around $6 per check, i need to walk to the bank and wait there 30 minutes to cash it.

Ross 06-01-2004 05:00 AM

My bank takes the piss when it comes to cashing cheques. Anything under $100 is no point in me cashing it really.

Only had them a few times, and occasionally I get small cheques from some recurring sponsors I used a while back. I only do wire transfers now, its better.

Depends on what bank you are with.
In the netherlands a minimun of 10 euro though with the postbank.
You can only cash it here though if you have an account there.

Raf1 06-01-2004 05:03 AM

my bank charges under $3 for a check

BigFurry 06-01-2004 05:20 AM

I happen to be lucky, after looking around in many banks a few years ago, I found one where I can cash checks for no extra fees - They only gain profits on the currency exchange rates. :)
No problems with small amounts either.
I suggest you also phone all banks.. you never know.

strobi 06-01-2004 05:23 AM

I throw away every check lower than 100$. No point in cashing those. I hate standing in line for a lousy 50 euros (IF they can cash checks as low as that!)

omg whats that:helpme

I'm not pretending to be a player. I change the minimum to something like 200 bucks or so. And sometimes (maybe 1 or 2 times a year, rarely) I get those small checks. No point in cashing those.

There's no avoiding it Marie, almost any bank here in NL takes a min. of ?10 so it's just tough luck.

I had it happen to me once or twice, since then I always bump my payout to at least $200 or check for PayPal or ePassPorte. :2 cents:

jovigirl 06-01-2004 08:02 AM

My bank charges 7? to cash them, but the trick is they add them all up and only charge me one fee no matter how many checks I bring, as long as they are all in the same currency ($)

JoeA 06-01-2004 08:02 AM

I'm lucky to have a US$ account here in the UK where all wires go and other checks get mailed or sent DHL, depending on the amount back to the USA where I have an account as well.

If you're with HSBC in the UK or EU I can thoroughly recommend them for their set up. If anyone would like more info: webmaster at ravishingindians dot com

Looks interesting!! How long have you been using it and do you fully trust them?

Edguy! 06-01-2004 01:04 PM

Some companies allow you to set amounts and then theyll send you a check. See PureCash on my sig.

cayne 06-01-2004 01:29 PM

Increase your minimum payout...
my bank takes 10? comission!!1111

NakedBo 06-01-2004 01:52 PM

Yeah the banks charge a lot, and for the first one you have to wait a long time, because most of them want to wait till the check clears and that can take upto 6 weeks...:(

You might even be better of having them wired.

My bank charges 20e for a check, and I have to fight every time with them cause allways they try to not take any checks.

And I can't collect those check cause here it's 30days time limit to cash those checks.
