I don't think that should cause a reboot

loverboy 05-31-2004 11:48 AM

correct, autorun just reads and executes autorun.inf, if its present

steve90 05-31-2004 11:56 AM

is it just a normal restart or is it more like a crash then you have to restart

axelcat 05-31-2004 11:56 AM

its messed up

Babaganoosh 05-31-2004 11:58 AM

Does it happen with other CDs? If so, you might want to consider the possibility of a bad power supply or a bad cd-rom drive. I have seen machines reboot as soon as the disc starts to spool up.

your shits fucked up! :2 cents:

one of the guys around here mentioned a bad power suppy also. id check into that

possibly, I don't have an autorun.nf file, since it's a backup of all some install programs, but my drive isn't set on autorun in the frsti place, so when I put the cd in, nothing happend, so I go to start run and type D: and then reboot, and windows sometimes keeps rebooting ,so i gotta keep itoff, I got a P4 at my other place, but this one has all my important info, i don't wanna format

Lifer 05-31-2004 12:14 PM

Formatting will not help if the CD is the problem. It won't help if it is a drive problem either.

It is possible that the cd has some temp file that was added that is an actual reboot file.

Like... if you do a restore, the restore opn will create a temp reboot file... so if the restore function fails, the system reboots using the same initial information.

In the old days, this would have been a modified config.sys or autoexec.bat.
