(article) Quick Traffic Tip of the Day -- Generating Traffic via YAHOOGROUPS

NOTE: To view the full archive of all the helful webmaster tips/tricks we've posted in the past, pls check out http://www.webmasterlabor.com/articles/

Here's a quick traffic generation tip courtesy of http://www.webmasterlabor.com

+++ For informational use only. If you plan to use this advise, you agree to abide by all of Yahoogroups' rules and regulations. You also agree to abide by Yahoo's TOS +++

Yahoogroups allows webmasters and non-webmaster porn fans to create email distribution groups to share picture and movie files. Yahoogroups are all located within the same Yahoo infrastructure so ALL collected lists are in one central location. This is a great source for newbie traffic since members of one list may not know of the universe of porn outside their list.

How to get traffic from this source?

Yahoogroups stopped listing adult groups in their main groups directory a long time ago. However, there are many adult group directory sites and lists available on the net. One of the bigger lists can be found at http://www.bitchnporn.com

Step 1:

Create a yahoo ID.

Create a profile and put your age (You must be over 18). Don't put any adult pics unless you mark your profile as an adult profile.

Log in to www.yahoogroups.com using your ID.

Step 2:

Start a New Group

Fill in the step by step details of your group. In order to maximize your chances of getting more list members, IMG SRC some graphics to your description page.

Step 3:

Go to http://www.bitchnporn.com and join the groups with the following criterion:

Open membership
Unmoderated
Attachments permitted

Always select NO MAIL for your email delivery preferences unless you want a full mailbox daily.

Collect your posting addresses eg. YOURNAME@[email protected]

In your outlook or other mail client-- create contact listings for these posting addresses.

Group these contant mail listings into groups--MAXIMUM of 8 addresses per group

Step 4:

Go to your mail preferences and put your POP mail address as an alternate address where you can send list mail from.

Step 5:

IMG SRC your pics and paste them onto an email composed in OUTLOOK or other HTML email clients.

Open your address book and send to your mail groups.

After sending batch 1, go to your SENT folder and forward it to group 2 (remember to take out all text indicating the email is a forward)

Marketing Tips:

Don't be too obvious with your advertising. Your initial goal must be to grow your OWN yahoogroup first. So just put your GROUP'S JOIN URL on your emails to other groups. Once members of other groups find your email and click on your link, they can join YOUR group. Once they're in YOUR group, you can blast them with your messaging.

Keep in mind that attachments are too bulk. So use only HTML attachments with IMG SRCED pics or EMBED the emails with IMG SRCED pics. You can send more pics while taking up less space.

Build a Hub site system. Create a directory on your MAIN yahoogroup which enlists your members to NICHE-SPECIFIC yahoogroups you create. Alternatively, you can segment your master list of yahoo adult groups by niche and send emails targeted to them. These emails then enlist the reader to join your niche-specific group.

Don't get banned. Yahoogroups has differing levels of strictness--to prevent getting banned, send only up to 2 times a day. Don't put commercial ads on your emails. Always use a clean profile or no adult pics in your profiles. Try to be niche-specific as possible. And follow other list owners' rules.

ENJOY THE COOL TRAFFIC!

There are some very good points there, I would like to give you some tips as well.

I have gone down the Yahoo Group road, its an easy way to turn clicks in customers though it takes a little effort to get the group set up right. Its really important you restrict who can post links, files and images or your group is likely to end up as another piece of cyber junk.

another tip is to have two yahoo ID's - one to promote and manage your group through the second one as a back up moderater of your group, why? Well yahoo will shut you down for using their groups for porn if you are lucky they will just ban you ID like they did mine, trouble is now I have 4 groups with about 30K members which have no moderater.

I also run this http://www.smithslookup.co.uk/forum/index.php which is basically a links exchange for adult groups, I started this as the surfers know where the good groups are so its handy to get them to post them.

So heres my basic fomular for making a Yahoo Group Pay;

1) Add content
2) Add Links to sponsors
3) Files - use the files to send basic html pages on joining and every two weeks, I send a snap shot of my home page, a dialer page, webcam page and also one to free sites.
4)Top Lists - theres 3 good ones, Groups Portal, Erotic Stuff I cant remember the other on off hand.

Other things to be mindful of - Sponsors 9/10 won't allow you to use yahoo to promote I spoke with a chap who runs Rabbit Reviews a 30K membership group and wegcash refused to pay him $2K as he was using YG.

People posting links to non legal stuff, IT HAPPENS A LOT check al messages before you send them to your users.

I allow people to promote their group within my group, if its off topic I ask them to post on the forum or in my links page there is no point sending off topic links it pisses people off.

So how much can you make from a group, on average before yahoo shut my groups I was doing about $300 per week and it was growing at a rate of about 10% each week. If you promote the group well its possible to have 10K members in less then a week. Once you get to about 14Kmembers you should think about opening a second group as you will become very visable to yahoo.

I hope this helps, this is a really good topic and it was as a result of having lunch one day with paul markham that I went down this route, he said a friend of his worked on groups for traffic - IT WORKS!

My final tip is dont make a group where people cant post - WTF is the point of making a read only group - you need to get debate going as thats what will make or break your group.

I will be happy to discuss this further if you wanna contact me 219458592 -

Cheers - Paul

Very good points, List Your Porn.

One additional point: Yahoo is ARBITRARY in killing groups. One good way to protect against this is to CROSS recruit your members along a wide range of groups and to create back up groups (as mentioned by List Your Porn).

Also, avoid the temptation to spam other peoples' groups, this gets you banned PLUS it reduces the overall quality of YG traffic.

Finally, YG gives you a great tool for creating newsletters for your paysites or freesites.

For more traffic to your adult yahoo group be sure to signup for a link trade at my yahoo group toplist: http://yahoo.playfulgirls.com - currently sends out about 300% return :thumbsup

Another tip. To get more users, sign up your group to the many adult group lists advertised on yahoogroups. The easier the user finds your group, the more members you get.

Good sponsors for YGroups = 4free type programs and dating programs ($1 per free signup).

So this is your toplist , PLEASE can you drop me an ICQ as I lost me log in and need to change the TL links if possible. Yahoo screwed my groups so if possible I would like to use my new details.

I can back you up on the %300 return, when I listed fetishlookup & Teenlookup with you guys I was getting about 50 - 100 members per day so thank you Kamilla36D

Just for the record I have met with Yahoo UK to discuss their groups and told them that they have a very good solution for people wishing to get into the web stuff.

Beleive it or not they had no idea that their groups were so good for commercial uses. I will be honest here if Yahoo charged me a fee per month though I could then do adult without getting my ass kicked I would pay.

The news letter is good the calendar is better ;-)

Are there any sponsors reading this thread who do not have an issue with marketing via YG's? That would be handy list to have.

One thing I forgot to mention if your group grows and is doing well back it up with group archives, dont learn the hard way like me :thumbsup

Jer 05-31-2004 05:55 AM

I'll copy this thread to notepad later. :)

You are right I own a lot of groups and we keep it restricted and I approve the mail before it ever makes it to the group members email boxes.

To much spam and crap we block most all of it. A lot more group owners are now keeping their groups moderated because of MASS SPAM and viruses that plague the e-groups.

Nasty Nun - give me a list of your groups i will add then to my listings page :thumbsup

Nice stuff. I used to promote my free sites on Yahoogroup back in the day when the adult group section was listed and you could view the top groups per category. However I lost track of it all. Is it still possible to know who are the top (i.e. most members) per category? There's no point in joining a group, and I think you can only join a limited number per username, to find out there's very little member and activity going on it!

No you need to now find good toplists to get the better groups. The number one in my view on the web in Rabbit Reviews, the owner is cool to.

I get shut down quite often but thats part of the course, some groups are set up badly - they dont allow people to post any messages. The group becomes one big advert I dont know if this works I would be interested if UKSweet could add their input here.

At the moment I am working on a checklist so I can create a process for knocking the groups up. Getting members is easy enough theres no problems there its just a pain setting them up :glugglug

Nice quick read there Gene :thumbsup

Any sponsor who won't take YG traffic is missing out.....

I used to have a shitload of yahoo groups, egroups (before yahoo bought them out), various clubs, etc. It's a great way to builda loyal targeted traffic base.

I've started re-building my groups and pumping them back up lately.

I always advise a moderated group as it's easier to deal with spam and illegal pics (the LAST thing you want is a questionable picture hitting your group). I also suggest opening a seperate group for each sponsor and talking to them about using their content to promote the group. If they don't want the traffic, fuck them and send it to someone who does...

I'm also looking into MSN Groups, but they are really full of spam and the sheer number makes it a little harder to build.

If you want to know some other dirty little inside secrets about yahoo group promotion, I'll have an ebook for sale within the next month or so (sorry, I can't take knowledge I've built tirelessly over the years and just give it away for free ;-)))

Cool. Thanks, Gene.
And in case this can help anyone, I took the listing from bitchnporn.com and created a searchable database. There's over 18,000 groups, so it's nearly impossible to find the one you're looking for otherwise.

I love this thread. I had avoided Yahoogroups because of the nonsense in the old days. Now that they've streamlined it I've got the best of both worlds.

Reason being I have 'fans' and 'rubberneckers'. Some fans have huge Yahoogroups and ask me to post stuff. What I did that was successful was to post 'serialized' toons. Toons that had that cliffhanger. It's gotta lead back to your paysite or 'via' ( i.e. sponsors etc. ).

Tease is the successful thing here. Use it to your advantage. I'm actually whipping up more serialized toons for my groups.

Here's one that always works:
http://www.gregboone.com/giserial1.jpg

Great advice on this thread. Hope I've contributed.
