Amazing fact of the day

Gold:
The world produces a cube of gold that is about 4.3 meters cube every year.
In other words, all of the gold produced worldwide in one year could just about fit in the average person's living room!

Platinum:
If you assume that the world has produced 3.6 million ounces per year for 50 years to estimate the total worldwide supply, all of the platinum in the world would fit in a cube that is 6.3 meters (about 20 feet) on a side. In other words, all of the platinum in the entire world would easily fit in the average home!

sweet7 05-30-2004 03:27 PM

love this site, there's a tv show like this also on discovery. How it is made.

Marcus Aurelius 05-30-2004 03:27 PM

damn. I've heard some rumors that the core of jupiter is mostly diamond and precious minerals due to the extreme gravity and presence of numerous gasses in its atmosphere under 1000 times earths gravity.

maybe someday we will know, but not in our lifetime.

Doctor Dre 05-30-2004 03:28 PM

Well if you take the 4 meter cube, split it in very little cubes and think how much gold is needed for a single jewelery ... you can make a shitload of jewelery with a cube that big :P
