Programs leaking webmaster email adresses?

Somewhere there is a leak, intentional or not.
I have gotten spammed twice in the last couple days to email adresses that have ONLY been used with these programs (I have wildcard email adresses on my domains, so I can make [email protected]).

The email adresses spammed are:

[email protected] ( capitalbucks ( duh!))
1 email, Subject line says: "RE: MS WIN XP"
and it is advertising soft-for-sale.com

***@mydomain.com ( triplexcash )
2 emails, advertising "wk-servers"

I am just wondering what the explanation for this is?
These spammers GUESS those email adresses? Your databases were hacked? They were sold? I am just wondering.

i am a lurker 05-30-2004 08:05 AM

sold. part of doing biz.

ldinternet 05-30-2004 08:09 AM

I also receive spam to unique addresses used to signup with capitalbucks and triplexcash, as have other people. I wish the search worked.

The solution is simple - fuck them. Don't promote them.

AdultNex 05-30-2004 08:10 AM

Of course it happens... They make side money selling it to bulkers.

As someone said, it's part of doing business.

EZRhino 05-30-2004 11:31 AM

Happens all the time and I hate it too

KingK7 05-30-2004 11:58 AM

Yeah it sucks. Not THAT big a deal, but I feel this is not something a program should do.

KingK7 05-30-2004 03:44 PM

I hate it when affiliate programs do shit like that... as if you don't contribute enough for them, they have to sell your info too. :321GFY

I totally agree, this thing is completely unacceptable, or at least it USED to be.

Tempest 05-31-2004 02:54 PM

Thanks for the info. That's 2 more sponsors to not sign up for and to ban from our sites.

No problem, I'd give them a chance to explain themselves first though, but no reply yet.

Still no reply. I'm starting to think we've had their reply. Course it's memorial day so who knows. On the other hand, what could they say? Server hacked? Disgruntled employee? It's a shame really cause I was going to be adding TripleXCash but now I'll have to wait awhile to see if there's any more reports of this sort of thing.

Sold, traded or stolen by employees. I see a lot of this myself.

Meloman 05-31-2004 07:02 PM

You guys should see my hustler/cashquest/vividcash email account daily. I get TONS of spam email from companies I've never signed up for that obviously got my email from a purchased list. Keep in mind how many dozens & dozens of places I've signed up with between VividCash, FlyntDigital & Cashquest2 and all them selling my email address just creates a huge multiplier spam effect.

What's funny is that half of the spam is regular surfer type stuff not webmaster related. You'd think they'd target it a bit better....guess they figure we all need home mortgages, hair growth and penish enlargement, lol.

I just figure it's just part of doing business.

I know I get that shit, sometimes 3 or 4 of' em at once. the big now thing is software, XP for $60.00 Dreamweaver $60.00, Photo Shop $60.00

I guess the idiots don't think MicroSoft and Adobe won't track' em down.

triplexcash you can tell this Affiliate 2 quit
spamming,

http://signups.triplexcash.com/hit.php?w=100017

Tell your Affiliate they bought a bad email list, ask for there money back.

Think porndollar.com bought the same email list.

Oh shit, maybe triplexcash sold porndollar there list:Graucho want 2 bet

Tempest 06-01-2004 06:04 PM

Maybe we need a new thread. One that says something like TripleXCash and CapitalBucks are F'in Spammers. That will certainly get their attention. I'm starting to think I should ban them entirely from our sites. That will create some pissed off affiliates and generate some heat.

Ok thats fine, at least a reply from you :)
Well, if you are not selling the webmaster emails, like you say, SOMEONE is still getting a hold of them, so there IS a leak somewhere.

I can see a few other options on how those emails could have gotten out....

Nothing saying anything wrong about MPA2, but any chance emails could have been compromised through that?

I can assure you that our system is gone over with a fine tooth comb at least once a month by a very trusted and respectable person. And we have never sold any kind of list so i don't know what to tell you. We respect our affiliates and wouldn't do something so bold like sell their info to others
