HELP! Techie needed!!!

One of my computers isn't booting up. As soon as the Compaq sign comes up, it goes straight to an error that reads:

Non-system disk or disk error
Replace and press and key when ready

But I DON'T have any floppys or cd's in their drives!

Can anyone help???

HELLLLLLLP!

Not good.

Check the bios and make sure the HD is the first drive in the boot order. If it keeps happening, you're probably in trouble! Try switching the drive to another machine if you can and see if it comes up.

One more thing to try....can you get into safe mode? try that...if a system doesn't let you open in safe mode yer REALLY prolly fuxored...

oh, you mentioned "one of my computers"...go make a boot disk as well....that's always another way of getting in to see wazzzuppp

Your probably hosed but check your BIOS settings carefully. Especially to make sure that you have a hard drive there. Hopefully if it's gone there will be an AUTO selection.

Your first mistake was getting a Compaq...hehe...oh well, I have on too (inherited it when I got married - wife's computer). The wife manages to fuck this computer at least twice a year. The last time was the worst. I hate to restart it about 15 times before it would even recognize a boot disk. Then I reinstalled Windows and it worked fine. Then I spent weeks downloading and reinstalling all that damn bootleg software I had.

After that I bought a cd burner so a crash is no big deal...everything is backed up.

Damn...looks like I'm gonna have to re-install every fuckin thing all over again.

Thanks guys...

Any last suggestions?

Hope you backed up your files recently ...... That error BAD ........

You can try a few things but dont get your hopes up. Being a Compaq you didnt get a real CD with it when you bought it. Boot up off a disk or cd anything that works a give you a promt. From there you have a few options each one may or may not help you along.

If you are networked to another PC you may be able to salvage your drive.

If you can get to a promt try using only DOS commands at first starting windows will only cause further damage at this point.

Dont run fdisk or format unless you are certain.

I few weeks ago I installed Windows ME and something went wrong and it deleted all my fuckin stuff! (3.9GB of videos and over 4000 pics) I hope you had backups man!!

YES!

I "proceeded" to check my sys bios F2 when a message came up in dos that flashed so fast I could barely read it but it basically said it was fixing itself. Then after the damn Compaq sign, instead of the boot error, ALL WAS OPERATIONAL!!

I have no idea what the fuck just happened but thanks for all you help!!
