Cell phone/mobile porn as an upsell?
Hey everybody, this is my first post to GFY! I don't run any adult sites at the moment but I'm amazed at how tight knit the group seems to be. Too bad the rest of the biz world doesn't work this way!
Anyway, my post is a combination a) call for beta sites, and b) open discussion on mobile content. I'd really appreciate your feedback. At wirerunner.com (site not launched yet), we have designed a software solution that helps people deliver content (images, and soon video) to mobile phones and PDA's via SMS. The goal is to let adult sites easily distribute their pics to their members, without having to manually deal with all the complexities of mobile. Currently, WireRunner doesn't do any billing to your customers, as we assume you are already integrated with CCBill or another provider. Our goal is to give your existing members some added value, and help you differentiate your site and sell more subscriptions. (how many sites offer mobile versions today?) When we send a link to the users phone, it has an expiring subscription to it. The subscriptions expire at a time you select (30 days, 1 week, whatever), and are "locked" to that users device to prevent super-distribution. I envision this as a better alternative to creating a purely mobile version of your site, and trying to get in front of users on phones.. Too hard to type in URL's by hand, and the phone companies are going to be shy about putting porn on their homedeck. A couple of details we are working through, that I hope the board can help me get answers to. 1: What would be your preferred method of adding this feature to your site? A link-away to another webpage that would return the user back afterwards? A PHP library? Perl? SOAP? 2. How many images do you normally have on a given site? 1000? 10,000? 3. What is your average number of paying customers in a month? (sorry if this is'nt talked about). 10? 1000? Averages or rough statements would be fine. 4. What operating system do you do your content management on? Windows? Mac? Linux? Thanks for your help! And let me know if you have a site that might make a good beta customer! Either respond to this post, or ICQ me if you want to talk more about anything. Thanks. Todd |

Welcome colpanic,
I just got my Palm Treo 600 the other day :thumbsup http://www.pornhero.com/treo600.jpg I think mobile porn is still a few years off, the screen resolution is 100x better that it was 5 years ago but still needs improvement i think. Also it costs $$ to download images for the mobile user... I think my package is something like $5/mb... so I wont be surfing for porn on this sucker until they offer a unlimited transfer plan... But I do foresee the day when we can offer a "mobile membership" at say half the cost of a regular membership on our sites... Just to answer one of your questions, a good site will have more than 10,000 pics and lots of videos.... now :321GFY |
I dont care nobody want's to look at porn on a cell phone but good luck!

Those Treo's are pretty. Which network is it on? T-Mobile?
There are still a lot of phone companies charging monthly fees for data usage, but that is going to change in the next year. Sprint/Verizon already have all you can eat packages, and as they start to realize that the money is in selling things, not bits, they will change. The Sprint Treo is even fairly highspeed by comparison. (up to 56k, instead of 14.4 that you get on AT&T/Cingular/T-Mobile). That being said, I think the market is starting to pick up. As an example, Sports Illustrated is selling their swimsuit models as background images for phones (using a system I designed at my former employer), and several large soft-core sites are investigating similar solutions. Check out the SI site: (not that I would pay 2 bucks for one photo, but what the heck, people are strange) http://si.fuelshop.com/ :Graucho |
I have sold several lic to guys who wanted to use the some of the ************* collection for cell phone content. Most were happy with the way the biz is going and continue to by from me from time to time...

I know some of the phone companies over in the UK are selling adult content (or letting others do so)... Voda does it, as does O2 I believe.
Anybody know of others? |
Take a look @ the Toshiba 9950. Resolution is amazing and the Vision network on the device is very nice. Few years away from moblie porn? Nope, more like a year. My Sanyo 7300 has damn good resolution as well. I send pictures (porn) to my device and they look decent.
Video porn we are probably a few years away, but the pictures shouldn't be too far away. Good luck :thumbsup |
colpanic, hit me up on icq .. 195-843-696

colpanic good to see a yank with some view to the future, the rest saying no one wants to see it are stupid fuckers and dont deserve to say they're part of the adult community!
Within the UK and Europe we are seeing the beginnings of this and its becoming increasingly popular for users, the reason people slate it is because they are too stupid to realise the potential and are so small time that they dont have the resources or knowledge to tap this market! Well done to you colpanic and hit me up for some real life examples of how to do this, and I may also be able to work with you on a few of my ideas. |
bump? (Sorry, I'm a newb to this board, but I presume this is how you get it back visible on this fast scrolling list) :thumbsup

Hehe.. logopimp, cool! I love the orgasm ringers.
Hey, I've been wondering about this. Since you are selling adult'ish images, but are really just selling ringers and backgrounds, did you get slammed with the $750 fee from Visa? If not, who is your merchant? Thanks. T |
bump!:thumbsup
