have a drink for the WWII vets this weekend
 

these guys are almost all gone and they are just now finally getting a memorial. it was a different time back then in many good and bad ways but those guys had pride and fought for their country like few ever have. so have a drink for those guys today, hit a VFW and listen to some stories or a senior center and say hello and hang out.

Is it a special day for that over there? We always celebrate the end of WW2 on the 5th of may, and on the 4th of may we remember the people who died in that war.

they hold a gathering every year at this italian joint i go to all the time... probably gonna go there this year too.... some vets and families of vets usually come down...really a great experience

was helping a friend go through some of his grandpas stuff the other day, found a huge wall size nazi flag signed by his entire ww2 company, 2 nazi ss armbands, and a cool pic of him with a thompson in front of a bombed out church. Those guys went through hell, much respect, cheers to them. I vow to never cuss when im behind some old guy in traffic going 10 miles an hour, you never know, If I spent my youth fighting nazi's id drive as slow as I fucking please when the fuck ever I wanted.

yeah those guys did go through hell and it was so hardcore that guys back here in the states that didn't get to go fight were pissed. and what about those guys who took the small pay raise to be the first airborne guys.

all war is hell but that war was just beyond imagination.

These people mustn't be forgotten... All of them and the soldiers from occuried European countries and former USSR performed a miracle... Let's celebrate this day together with them! :)

Taking my boys (9 and 7) to the cemetary in just a bit. They will be helping their boy scout troop to decorate the graves for the weekend.

here's a pic of the memorial when i was up there last month, I really wanted to go to the dedication (my mom has tickets and is on her way to the ceremony now) but i couldnt get back up to DC for it :(
