Which one is WORSE Shaving or Scrubing?

Well from my point of view.. It's almost the same..

I think scrubing is a little more fucked up for Regulars on your site. they will find another site if they are declined.

I do agree if the CC# = blacklisted Scrub the bitch

shaving of course. go thru the trouble of making sure the cc is good, and then not get paid for it? that sucks

FlyingIguana 05-29-2004 12:09 AM

yeah but both affect the bottom line, the question I think is which one would you least want to happen to you...

I would have to agree

Scrubbing is necessary, but costs you money if they do it
too hard. Shaving is THEFT and is totally fucked-up.

EviLGuY 05-29-2004 02:49 AM

Shaving is stealing from you so they can afford those fancy cars etc.. scrubbing is just how things have to go if people want to keep chargeback levels low.

Are you even in this industry? How can you think they are anything close to the same?

Scrubbing, at least you will gain something from increased scrubbing -> less chargebacks/fraud....

Shaving = theft, so it is worse.

nofx 05-29-2004 03:03 AM

shaving, stealing money right from your pockets

shermo 05-29-2004 03:06 AM

Shaving is downright dirty while scrubbing is somewhat necessary to keep our industry flowing. I hate hard scrubs via some major processors, but what can affiliates really do about it?

Furious_Male 05-29-2004 08:01 AM

Shaving is outright theft. No sugar coating it. Scrubbing is part of security protocol. No comparison. Shaving is the worst.

slapass 05-29-2004 08:06 AM

We all like to think of shavign as theft but if they have traffic leaks, don't pay on AOL, dropped cookies, don't pay on checks or dialers etc is that theft? There are tons of ways to shave us that they do right in front of our faces so are they stealing?

but one is ripping off webmasters and the other is in response to tough visa regulations.

corvette 05-29-2004 09:39 AM

2 completely separate principles

one is risk mitigation, and the other a dishonest practice of stealing/misrepresentation

?and imo, if shaving occurs, by and large it is so programs can pay the high payouts that affiliates demand

mpahlca 05-29-2004 09:45 AM

The problem with shaving and saying the arguement of; dropped cookies, not paying on AOL and shit like that is; It doesn't matter how they are 'losing' the traffic theft is theft it is their responsibility to follow the traffic that is part of the agreement!

We are advertisers putting up ads on the internet for these companies, if they are unable to track the traffic we are sending them then maybe we shouldn't send it anymore!

exactly

long run recurring on real sites makes way more money then PPS everytime all the time

jayeff 05-29-2004 10:18 AM

Most of us have examples of scrubbing gone crazy: perfectly good card rejected, etc. But even if the processors are costing us some points, that's as far as it goes.

Shaving is theft, but it's more than theft: it is every webmaster who shaves telling all their affiliates that they are sh*t, laughing at how gullible they are. Shaving is about crooks, not businessmen, who one day will screw up their businesses or just get bored and walk away with another chunk of their affiliates cash.

And screw the argument most only shave to meet affiliates expectations. Who built up those expectations if not the clowns who said they could pay $40 when they knew they could only afford $30.
