Enquering minds want to know if AC/DC let them use their song "Money Talk" or if 50Cent gave his blessing to use is music "in da club" on a porn site banner!

Are song part of the public domains that anyone can use at will without paying any royalty?

The same people who scream about people ripping their sites are the same ones who use famous songs in their material.. how odd.

*sigh*

I personally don't care if it's some little funny video that someone makes for fun, but a company using copyrighted material in their advertising campaign just reflects really badly on the company's business practice. Unless they do have the rights, of course.

Easton 05-28-2004 06:31 PM

hahaha... of course not... but the music is PIMP

emthree 05-28-2004 06:52 PM

I don't think any CO would willingly give permission for such adult oriented useage, because it might stir problems and they are not profiting nor gaining proper exposure.

But yeh it is wrong

technically, in Canada anyway... you're allowed to use small clips of songs legally... I can't remember what the length was, 3 - 7 seconds or something... you can use that and not have to pay royalties.

I don't know if it's the same in the States.

Fletch XXX 05-28-2004 06:55 PM

Many do not.

I have a sound library worth over 20k.

Completely licensed to use every sound from Hannabarbera Cartoons to a 5 disc Apacolypse Now military sound library from the legendary film, every sound used.

it doesnt come cheap, I believe the Apacolypse now 5 discs was 3k.... and theres no way these companies are paying to use licensed sounds.

:winkwink:

i don't think there is such a thing as legal 'sampling'.

but when i listen to the radio, i hear stations doing ads for local businesses and I hear popular music being used underneath the ads and sometimes samples from movies. like today i heard a radio ad and at the end they use James Brown sounds. definitely not legal but I guess people get away with it.

JulianSosa 05-28-2004 08:26 PM

Im still more shocked that people use popular songs in there trailers on paysites. Now that is asking for it

Not for advertising you can't.

It is against the law and GFY should take a stand and not allow it.
