Are domains property?
Yes or no?
|
yes
|
I'd say so
|
Are you sure?
Since when? Since the sex.com lawsuit? |

Yes and they are considered to be an address. So you could say that your address is rhinosthumbs.com and if you want to send me a fucking invoice, send it to my email box, fucker, and that would be just fine too.

No, domains are not property...
I know .ca domains are owned by CIRA, im sure .com's are owned by some governing organization as well. A domain is leased, kind of like a phone number... it's "yours" but you never truly own it. |
yes

If you read his advice, and other info regarding domains you will get your answer and then some.
|
Officially domains belong to ICANN which you lease.

And do you think that in some future it will change and they will be considered property? |
i agree i think they are like phone numbers
|
The "no's" are wrong. thats why Kremin was able to sue network soloutions.
"Carreon became the first lawyer to establish that Internet domain names are property that can both be stolen by thieves and returned to their owners by court order. " http://onlinemedialaw.com |

Like phone numbers! That's a good example.
|
hehe, if you can own it...its somethin
|
Yes, they are
|
Generally... no!
If you are speaking to some tax collectors - definately not. If you are trying to make claims in court - yea! But in real life.... na... as said above, least according to a rathole of lawyers at InterNic, they will claim they are "similar to phone numbers"... But hell... cos they say so, don't mean a damned thing! :winkwink: |
BTW... I actually had a tax investigator try and tell me they were like real estate and were an appreciating asset :winkwink:
That was before he was told he could pay the reg fees or fuck off - he chose to fuck off :-) It all depends on who has an agenda - sounds like most things in life :glugglug |
Yes, according to case law thanks to Gary's case they are.
:Graucho |
Its been said already but the sex.com case proved that rather nicely.

A better example would be to build a restaurant that looks exactly like the one next door and serve the exact same menu. (See how long you get away with selling mcnuggets:Graucho) |
