Pharmaceutical company asked me to take my name off their website due to ties in porn

A couple of months ago I did a little website development project for a pharmaceutical company. Everything went well, except about a month after the site was up the guy called me up and asked that I remove my name as the webmaster contact because one of their clients "did some research" and found out I was involved in the porn industry.

Kinda scary how people can find out shit about you like that. Has working in this industry affected YOU in a similar way?

discuss.

If it is his site....why would your e-mail be on the webmaster contact ?

Shooter 05-27-2004 12:18 PM

Did some research? What does that mean?

Did you have your mainstream and adult portfolio at the same place?

rowan 05-27-2004 12:20 PM

There's a web site that shows all of the domain/sites hosted on a particular IP. Perhaps he's running mainstream and adult on the same server.

Rictor 05-27-2004 12:20 PM

They probably just googled your name or e-mail and found porn sites. It's not rocket science.

Boogie3 05-27-2004 12:20 PM

how the hell did they find out?

No, I'm not even a designer. Don't have a portfolio. I just take on little projects from time to time if I get asked. Word gets around that I'm the guy for "internet stuff" so I get calls out of the blue for some simple design work every once in a while.

Most of my clients know I'm in the adult industry. Thats WHY they want me to do thier sites.

But I agree once you finished his site why wasn't his email the contact?

It's my server, and yes everything is on the same server.

I was the "webmaster" on the company contact page.

Is he hosted with you?

Is your email 'porn related'

Is your company for designing mainstream the same as the adult?

It will affect you - but I'm thinking it's more that someone within the company followed a few links you had and went with that.

I don't think clients really care - it may be the other person who lost on his bid for the RFP.

Edit: Could a 404 bring to one of your sites?

I know, that's why I removed my last name from my sig.

Is your email 'porn related' - no

Is your company for designing mainstream the same as the adult? - I don't have a design company, lol

Could a 404 bring to one of your sites? - nope, don't have any custom 404 pages... been trying to figure out how to do that, lol.

SmutGiant 05-27-2004 12:29 PM

9/10 chances are he typed my name into google and a bunch of GFY threads probably came up when I had my full name in my sig.

HS-Trixxxia 05-27-2004 12:33 PM

That sucks - but like I said, I highly doubt a 'client' would be trying to find info on the designer/webmaster of a site.

A competitor would or someone within the company wanted to check up more on you.

taboo_dude 05-27-2004 12:34 PM

Andrew,

You have to watch out, they are some people out there that will drag you name the mud and accuse you of everything even when they know better all in the name of religion. Just because your ideals do not match theirs.

Hypocrites.

Jill_J 05-27-2004 01:37 PM

does it bother you? less problems for you:) say GFY to that guy:winkwink:
