Being a drummer is dangerous (pics)

Here's a few pictures of my hands. You might think it's from chronic masturbation, and although that could have contributed to it, playing Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, etc. on the drums is why my hands are bloody. Rock and Roll.

I take it you haven't played in a while? Or was it a hell of a lot more than you are used to. I have a few friends that are drummers and there hands are calloused as all hell (they never bleed). They play every single day though.

NickPapageorgio 05-26-2004 08:20 PM

Flea from RHCP did an interview back in the day. (Mother's Milk Tour) He said that he got deep "holes" from the blisters on his main bass thumb he would use. He would take crazy glue and put down in there and it would harden up making his thumb last a little longer for shows. Dunno what the repercussions of putting crazy glue in an open sore is but...hey...it might work.:Graucho

sinkiss 05-26-2004 08:20 PM

ouch!!

basschick 05-26-2004 08:20 PM

dude! i have played with drummers who play 8 - 10 hours a day 7 days a week, but your hands are the worst i've ever seen!

Yup, I don't have any of my drums in Hawaii, so I can only play when I am home. Usually I get good calluses after a month or so, but it's only been 2 weeks.

Looks like time to switch sticks. Shoot for these bad boys:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=41 456

I use them and I've never dealt with those kind of wounds. My main bruises and calouses come from hand percission. I'm pretty rouch on my congas. :thumbsup

stephanie m. 05-26-2004 08:26 PM

The one in the pic is a GMT Master.

Ash@phpFX 05-27-2004 03:13 AM

damn man, i would get someone to look at your technique, and if you broke ahead sticks you are either playing too many rimshots with them or again, your technique.

i hit harder than anyone else ive seen and ive never broken aheads, i go though wood ones pretty quick though. it looks as if you have a grip too tight on the sticks, you shouldnt be tearing up your thumb in that position at all

KittyLix 05-27-2004 03:17 AM

rock the fuck on :drinkup

samuel 05-27-2004 03:19 AM

I suggest you cleanse those wounds with some salt :1orglaugh

Seriously though, its so easy to fuck your hands up playing instruments like guitar, I've done it several times without thinking.

EviLGuY 05-27-2004 03:48 AM

Arousal Design 05-27-2004 03:50 AM

i play drums and never suffered the same kind of mutliation that you seem to be experiencing, must be the difference in music.
