How Have You Progressed As a Sucessful Webmaster

Had this on my mind and just thought it would make for good discussion.

How have you progressed?
what were your previous weekly goals and what are they now..

I remember a year ago
I used to look at my sales and think
"If I can have $400 in sales by Wednesday night, I'm on course for $1000 for the week"

Now I see it as
"If I can have $1000 in sales by Wednesday night, I'm on course for a $2000 week"*

*This was not to boast or brag in anyway, because I know there are probably webmasters reading this who make $1000 a day, if so I congradulation you, and hope to join your ranks someday

You make money with that shit?

Alltopnotch 05-26-2004 04:14 PM

lol...yea a year ago i was still trying to figure out how to piece my site together and make everything work...now i'm finally making some money...not anywhere near what i want to be making though...

eroswebmaster 05-26-2004 04:17 PM

Started off in this biz as a submitter, then along with my partner and a few others *who need not be named* we brought out Diabolical Galleries...a different take on the hosted gallery program.

I moved into design which was not my intention and have been doing that steadily ever since.

My business has grown and continues to grow....sometimes a bit faster than I want and at other times not as fast as I would love.

I went from being a one man operation to a 3 man operation and we have some interesting plans for the future.

Yes I make money with that site...
Do I consider it "shit" no...
I consider it a profitable site with lots of potential...

I'm not taking this personal..
just care to hear your opinion..

Why do you consider it to be "Shit"?

I think the key to our site progessing to this point . Was the first year we just took none of the money out , we both worked and the money went back into the site. Where many put too much of a financial burden too early in their businesses growth. Also I think you have to have a 1 yr , 5 yr and 10 yr business plan and they have to be reviewed on a regular basis to make sure we are on track and hitting goals. I dont trust my future to fate.

I'm not at a point to make big money (don't running a porn-page - it's kinda E/N) but the uniques are increasing as hell. I'm already at 15k daily visits and the website is up since 80 days...

Ross 05-26-2004 04:22 PM

I've defo moved on. I started working for myself rather than for someone and I'm making 3 times more than I did this time last year. So I'm happy.

Hey Alltopnotch

I've certainly been there...
It's like learning how to drive...
One day I just realized I was driving, and wasn't thinking about it like I use to, it became something I could do without "thinking" about my each and every move

Keep at it, and I'm sure it will work out for you..
just take it a day at a time

The money comes from "experience in the field"
just give it sometime, and you will start seeing more ways to make money, and a better/easier way to make money...

Yeah things just keep getting better. Once you hit around $2000 a week I found that you tend to start gaining speed and your earnings quickly rise. Its great to have that extra bit of cash you can throw at other ventures and other traffic sources. If you can make $2000 a week in adult websites, you can easily make $10k a week.

But eventually you get to the point where you have to hire people, and I am finding that hiring good people is really hard. Webmasters who are looking for jobs tend to be really really lazy even when you pay them well. Would love some tips on how to handle that :)

Good thread PlatinumLantern, don't mind the try hards, a lot of people need to posture on this board.

Look at it in mozilla(firebird)... tables are all fuckered... Looks nice in IE though!

Jace 05-26-2004 05:13 PM

i stopped doing shit for other people, and only doing things i wanted to do and only I would be making money from...

since then my income has doubled

blazin 05-26-2004 05:15 PM

Good thread PL :thumbsup

Personally I have progressed but not as much as I should have...

However, I am slowly building up and diversifying my traffic sources which has helped increase my income by about 25% month on month without overly increasing my workload.

Overall I feel I am heading in the right direction.

Don't have a lot of time to devote to this game though at the moment, my mainstream company and family commitments take up most my time.

Do people actually use that browser???

Marcus Aurelius 05-26-2004 05:19 PM

Ive got a good plan and a good basis to start with. I feel I have grown over the past year immensely in my knowledge of the industry and I think im on the right path, so yes, I would say I have progressed most certainly in the right direction. Im not rich, wont be in the near future, but nothing worth having comes easy, so I hope my progression continues.

Ok heres a couple of tips ...

1. TGP traffic will only get you so much. You need to eventually put your tgp stuff on autopilot.

2. SE traffic is gold.

:)

perhaps you could hire people that are from outside the adult business? they're not used to the easy money aura that's all over this industry yet...

Not so sure that would work. I need people with experience in this industry who wont take too much training.

The key to hiring good people in this industry and getting a good amount of work out of them is a smallish salary and some sort of commission based on results as well.
