Can Your Old Host Do This
 

I have switched servers but the old host deleted my site before they should have.
They said to let them know 2 days in advance so I did and figured that is when they would delete my site but after I sent them a cancellation notice I was sent a letter by them don't worry we will delete it later tonight or so I emailed them before they did and asked them to leave it running for anothe rcouple of days but they either never looked at the mail or whatever.
Anyway they started using my domain name and posted a page for them and their sponsors on it so I complained to one of their staff about and he apologized and tells me they delete sites asap to make room for others.
They thought I had back up files and they were sorry if I didn't but I did so I didn't mind it at first until they used my domain name for themselves.
Anyway he removed the page and made it just a plain 404 page but now today I see are using my domain name agin for a 404 page with their ads on it.I don't like it because it can mess up what little reputation my domain has out there but I really want to know if they are allowed to use domain names that aren't theirs to begin with unless given permission?

Guess you shouldn't have told them in advance. I'm paranoid about people doing shit like that too, so I'd rather pay more than take the risk...

Yeah that happened to me at my first pay host

first netsol fucked up the transfer, and then the host double charged me, by accepting my wiretransfer and then billing my creditcard

while the transfer was fucked up they deleted my sites, and resold the ips to someone else even though I was fully paid for hosting 21 more days

my site was down for almost 2 weeks

do not use erotic webcows hosting :P they suck

Yeah, thats happened to me too, but probably not quite as bad.

I always try and use the hosts that have a good customer service reputation nowadays.

It pays to get the right host.

My dns is working now so the site is back up but I don't know how much the few days will effect it.
I really wanted to know though is if they can do that because I'm not planning on but I would think if they did that to a big site for example the Hun he would have sued the shit out of them,am I right?

QC, you could probabally sue them, but you would have to prove your monetary loss, and thats almost impossible todo in this biz. So just be glad its over, and time to move on ahead, Ill try to help and bump up the 50 hits I send to you, to atleast 100 http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif
BTW even though you told me this was happening the other day, I left your links up, so that when the new dns went through my few hits would be there for you.

when I switch hosts, I generally keep the old site running at least a week, because ISPs (AOL especially) keep the cache running quite a while, also if I run into problems with the new host, i can bail and go back to the old server without too much trouble.
