PDA, do you have one?

I always thought they looked cool and stuff, but never actually used one for real. I used to play around with an Apple Newton back in the days, it was somewhat cool - but I was a kid back then and wasn't using it for any business purposes.

Now i'm just used to not have a PDA and actually wonder why should i get one. So if you have a PDA, tell me who should consider one, what you do with it - and what's the cool things you can do with it.

Also, what do you think about this Phone/PDA? Looks like... i don't know... i just can't really imagine myself speaking into something this big.

sure do...the ones from dell or casio are great....

JakeR 05-25-2004 10:04 AM

i spent 500 on an ipaq, thinking it would be useful, it hasnt left the cradle in 2-3 months.

Manowar 05-25-2004 10:21 AM

just get a laptop - 100x more useful. PDA's are useless for any real work

Calvinguy 05-25-2004 10:23 AM

They are powerfull and can be used for alot but when you need it for something serious you find out they can't be used for anything at all really...

scottie0779 05-25-2004 10:25 AM

yeah, i busted the bank for an ipaq. wish ida gotten a laptop instead. I think Solitaire is the most used program on my handheld... and my wife's usually dicking around with it. Other than that, it keeps my computer job appointments for me. Woo hoo. $400 calendar.

x582 05-25-2004 11:03 AM

Yeah, exactly what i'm thinking too...

now, where are the PDA geeks? :Graucho

Boogie3 05-25-2004 11:04 AM

pood 05-25-2004 11:19 AM

Basic_man 05-25-2004 11:21 AM

exactly, solitare and some other games. The most ive used it for was the universal remote w/macros, but the novelty wore off real fast on that as well

Herb Kornfield 05-25-2004 11:27 AM

Dell AXIM - Just use it for contacts / calander and password file holder.

Its sync's with outlook so I can make tasks / notes etc for when im on the road and also, plot ideas quickly....its mostly a $500 notpad, lol....

JDog 05-25-2004 11:28 AM

Yea I have a sony, but I don't use it and don't know where it is. I guess that's what I get for just buying all the tech toys!

Now that would be something I would like to get, just because it's easier than having a mobile & a palm!

here is am :stoned

i have am on my second ipaq, wore out the first one and my first palm pilot. i use my every day and would be somewhat lost without it. i have all my contacts for the past 7 years in it, but that is the tip of the iceberg. i have keep customer quotes, pricing charts, schedules, etc on it. yes, everything that is already on my laptop...BUT if you are in the store, driving down the road and a client calls and needs a password for thier site, or if a server goes down, it is nice to be able to pull that out of my pocket and and still be able to get to all the critical info i need ;)

Firehorse 05-26-2004 04:16 AM

A combined phone/ PDA is the way to go. :thumbsup

xxxoutsourcing 05-26-2004 04:42 AM

I have the O2 XDAII
Phone/PDA

I use it everyday and it's very usefull.

Fits in my pocket and rather than carry a laptop to the pub i take this, can use ICQ, MSN, e-mail etc.

So if i'm out and about it works great, carry all my appointments, task lists on it, i find it very usefull.

Sexy Rex 05-26-2004 04:52 AM

Sony Ericson P900

Phone and PDA, I use it everyday.
I installed ICQ on it a month ago, using it a few times a week.

I use good old Palm IIIc and really cannot imagine myself without it (contacts, appointments, to do list, quick notes).
Synchronized with outlook of course.

Tried various fancy Ipaqs but Palm is the best - much faster, doesn't freeze or crash, 3 years and no major issues with syncing with the pc.

PDA/phone combo is not a good choice IMHO...

Sort of difficult to talk on the phone and take notes at the same time :)

I had good experiences with P900 but it doesn't seem to be as reliable as Palm for the 'organizer' kind of work.

Easton 05-26-2004 07:05 AM

never had a PDA and don't need one...

Project-Shadow 05-26-2004 08:17 AM

The A920 is sorta a PDA/Phone.. can't really say much I managed to get a megadrive working on it and use it to play sonic when im bored shitless.. and make a few calls but apart from that, it's a very expensive, useless brick.
