LOS ANGELES -- Snoop Dogg has unleashed himself from his marriage.

The rapper has filed for divorce from his wife, Shante Broadus. Court papers say the split is due to "irreconcilable differences."

The couple has been together since 1997 and have three kids -- ages 9, 7 and 4. The rapper and actor is seeking joint custody of the children.

Snoop's attorney says the rapper hopes that the divorce "can be as amicable as possible." The rapper and actor co-stars in the new movie "Soul Plane," which opens on Friday.
