My cat loves watching the sun set

Is this normal? I didn't think animals were into that sorta thing, but night after night... he's right out there.

Tonight I went out there too, and he came over and snuggled up against my knee... so I got a pic.

But... since when do cats like to watch the sunset?

zzgundamnzz 05-24-2004 09:20 PM

Don't worry about it. He's just waiting for the sun to set so he can start killing things. Cats love to hunt :thumbsup

fudpuck 05-24-2004 09:21 PM

Sounds like you have a cool cat. :thumbsup

EviLGuY 05-24-2004 09:23 PM

I think they probably just like being outside.

buddyjuf 05-24-2004 09:25 PM

that's pretty fucking cool :thumbsup

crockett 05-24-2004 09:30 PM

he's just thinking of all the cool things he could do outside if he wasn't locked in a 4th story condo.

That or he's wondering if he is high enough up to kill himself when he jumps.

newsdude 05-24-2004 09:31 PM

Maybe he wishes he's outside!

I leave the door open pretty much all day, he comes and goes out there... checking stuff out.

But every night, right at sunset, he'll be out there for an hour or more... right through the entire thing.

Heh, Crockett, you're close... 8th floor actually. So no, he knows full well he can't make the jump. He approaches the edges of the balcony with great caution. I think he's actually scared of heights :1orglaugh

Oracle Porn 05-24-2004 09:33 PM

I'm pretty sure a cate is more likely to survive an eight-story fall than a four-story fall. I forget where the exact cutoff is but I know at above a certain height they actually have a better chance to survive because they have time to orient themselves.

Mr. Marks 05-24-2004 09:40 PM

Maybe he just wanted to relax for a little bit.

pure energy 05-24-2004 10:39 PM

Smart cat!

Makingcoin 05-24-2004 10:42 PM

You have a balcony up in that place?

Only on the sides I am assuming, never saw any on the front of the building.

I think it was more that they get over the initial shock of falling, and their muscles instinctively relax, which results in less injury when they hit the ground. If they fall from a lower height then they don't have time for this.

My cat rolled right off the edge once at a flat I used to live in. She hung onto the concrete by her front claws and dragged herself back up somehow. I was lunging for her but it was all over in a couple of seconds. Her little heart was going a million miles a minute after that.

It was a first floor flat, but there *was* concrete below, so who knows what would have happened if she hadn't pulled herself up.

BTW, that first pic is really cool, that would be great shot if it was professionally done. :thumbsup

nope, balcony is right out front... facing the water.

I never would have moved down here if I didn't have a good ocean view :winkwink:

Heh, yeah... I was happy enough with it, just my little pocket camera... holding it out infront of me.

Turned out better than I expected :)

SlickRick 05-24-2004 10:48 PM

thatjen 05-24-2004 10:51 PM

Awww how sweet!! My cat looks like yours. I am always picking him up to show him the sunset but he's not interested. My cats only like watching birds and bugs.

SleazyDream 05-24-2004 10:51 PM

PrivateEye 05-24-2004 10:59 PM

My cat leaves my mouse alone, but he does like to sleep in between the keyboard and monitor. So long as he's asleep, he's not in the way... but awake, he can get annoying :)

Thanx johnbosh :thumbsup

reynold 05-25-2004 01:00 AM

pimplink 05-25-2004 01:02 AM
