Here they go again.. Squeak Squeak..

And here I thought the last killing was hours ago, death toll at 8. But I hear them in the basement again, they've got another mouse cornered. Wonder what the death toll will be tonight?

Spunky 05-24-2004 08:29 PM

Well, for the most part the cats are doing the killing.. LadyM killed one last night with her shoe.. Our one cat was quite upset with her at what she did to his fun new toy. :winkwink:

Yep. I posted a thread earlier today about how they have been slaughtering mice since it started to rain. Guess the little buggers don't like to get their feet wet either. Unfortunately for them, it's been a wholescale massacre. My cats are really enjoying themselves.

Screaming 05-24-2004 08:33 PM

cats are crazy animals, i had one that was mostly an outside cat and i didnt have lizards, squirrels, birds, other cats or really any wildlife really until i had to put him to sleep, now all of the above are taking over the place, i think i might be needing another cat, sounds like yours are doing a great job with the mice population

Yeah... They are indoor cats but they are FANTASTIC mousers. I'm glad about it, I just wish they'd learn to clean up the corpses when they were done. EWW>

Mine likes to bring in birds all the time.Sometimes they are still alive and they start flopping around..blasted cat..feathers everywhere.

Bah. I wasn't going to let the thing suffer, and besides, I didn't want it in the children's playroom.

I just went to the basement to get laundry, that's where they had the last one. My one cat has taken to waiting until the others have killed the mouse, then batting it around and playing with it like it was one of his mouse toys. He grabbed it and threw the corpse so high into the air with his mouth it almost hit me in the face. ICK! I left him to his fun and games, I'll get the body later. I'm sure there'll be more.

hopefully to those mice your cars will be like Freddie! nightmare at your house!

i live in a house that was built in 1905, every year we try something differnet to keep the bats out. and without fail, we get at least one a year in the house.(which is much better then the past) anyway, we got a kitten a year ago, and he is 10x better at catching bats than i am at hitting them with a broom.

our past cats used to play with mice, and eventually kill them ( but we would always steal them, and give them to the snake) but this cat catches them, and bites into their heads as hard as he can, he is a bad ass. i love him.

his name is Cain, after cocaine (the guy from menace to society) and of course the murderer of able. i guess there is alot to a name.

This house is older too and I don't know where the mice are even coming in, but I'm damn glad I have cats!

You're lucky you only have mice and not big rats!

cherrylula 05-24-2004 11:38 PM

I have a little female cat too, she loves to catch mice and rats.

Its really gross though, she has a taste for brains, so all she does is gnaw their faces off til she can eat out their brains out, and then leaves them to die. But she leaves the rest of the body intact. Big ugly rats, mice, and baby possums.

Last summer my dog was running around with a little pointy rat face thing in his mouth, it was really gross.

Ironhorse 05-24-2004 11:45 PM

Killing animals is one thing, delighting in it is cruel to say the least. One can only hope you find friendlier hosts in your next life :2 cents:

rowan 05-24-2004 11:50 PM

Came home once and noticed one of my cats was sitting v-e-r-y still, with one of her paws out... I looked under the bit of paper and found a small field mouse. She had her paw pinned on its tail. The wife freaked out totally, but I calmly trapped it in a plastic tube and took it to a vacant block across the road. If we had a plague I might feel differently, but one little field mouse isn't going to hurt, I couldn't just kill it...

reynold 05-25-2004 12:58 AM

Cats definitely come in handy at times like this!

pimplink 05-25-2004 01:03 AM

I don't like mouse, espescially those who wander through the night.

Mr. Marks 05-25-2004 02:08 AM

So, what's the death toll now?

I certainly don't delight in the killing, but I'm not going to cry about it. Hantavirus is a VERY BIG problem, and it's carried by these local mice. I have three kids, one of them a newborn. I do *NOT* want these disease-carriers anywhere near my kids, thanks.

Gee, and you wonder why I'm cautious? THere was a hantavirus outbreak in Alberta about a decade ago, and I knew several people who got very very ill from it. My kids don't need to get sick because I had a bleeding heart towards mice :)

Yeah if I can catch the live ones, I put them outside... If the cats get them first, or I can't catch them, I have to just dispose of the bodies.

11. And it was SOO gross.. last night I was doing laundry, and the cats cornered a mouse in the basement.. they killed it, but then they played with it.. my one male was throwing it up in the air with his mouth like 2 feet.. one time he flinged it so high it almost hit me in the head.. it was gross. I got rid of the body very quickly :P
