The Difference In Dealing With Professionals And Dealing With Idiots

Man, sometimes I almost feel excited and lucky to deal with some people.

They hit me up with a project plan, have their content laid out in zips with previews already made, have a vision or at least a route for me to begin on, and is a general pleasure to deal with.

I get to see the inside of sites before they are even launched, I will never have to pay for porn, and I see more of it than I could ever want to, and believe it or not I learn a lot from dealing with professionals and those who know what they are doing.

Then the idiots...

I wont even go into them, ill keep it positive, but I can tell you this.

if you think sometimes only clients are left with a bad taste regarding a project think again.

I have dealt with people who have made my eperience in working with them a nuisance, aggrivating, and too time consuming, not trying to come across as an asshole, but some people simply waste my time and instead of working with them I end up avoiding them because they are like leeches and seem to only be trying to

a. get shit for free
b. learn what they can from me without ever engaging in a project.

I have no time for those and instead of going on about negative asects of doing business, lets focus on good parts.

Any professionals who actually read this and need some work, I just got finished a 1 month long project dedication so my schedule is now open for any work, hiw me up if you need something.

I hear you on that but i try to lay it all out for the clients before we even start working, so they know what they are getting for the money they are paying for, this way they wont bug me for extra free work after the project is complete. But no matter how you try in any business you will have those that will sit on your back and bug you every day for pure nonsense.

My clients know exactly what they are paying for and getting, my reputation speaks louder than my work... word of mouth rules.

Most of my clients simply hit me with the project details and payment and there is no duscussion, I deliver, they are satisfied. I rarely have to tweak things around, not very often. Common things maybe colors etc, but everything is changeable in my work.

People use a designer they know and trust, its the people that dont that need coaching.

My clients come to me becuase they know they wont have to deal with the other bullshit issues some cause.

but yeah time watsers are around, ive only recently started using ICQ again.

:winkwink:

Okay, I am about to run out to do some errands, and do a few things.

I wanted to offer the GFY crowd a special today only.

5 Galleries for $100 even, I normally do 4 for 100 so its like getting a free one ;)

Anyway, its 12:20 here, so midnight tonight PST deal closes.

email me ASAP as I can only accept so many of these at this price before my schedule is filled. Ill cap it at 10 slots of 5.

fletch @ fletchxxx dot com

Ill check this thread when I return as well as email.

thanks and look forward to dealing with some of you.

i'll say you the only designer i send full payment to, instead of 50%...i rarely trust anyone...granted it's only 35-75 bucks at a time, but i do trust you and your work...

Fortunately our stores are automated so don't have to do much for the less sharp ones.

And a fools dollar buys the same as a wise mans, I know the wise man buys more. But in this business there are more fools to sell to. :1orglaugh

Only joking, Fletch has a problem in that his service is personal as ours is not.

Dealing with scammers is even worse that dealing with idiots. It is refreshing to find a trustworthy individual in this industry. (not that there arent many)

I hope you enjoy working with me/us :)

Doctor Dre 05-24-2004 03:02 PM

I agree at 100000 % ...

b. learn what they can from me without ever engaging in a project.

----

This happen to me so often ... last month a guy popped out . he asked me questions daily about a cam site, how to do it, what's better ... and about business cards and everything .

I was very kind and shown him the way from what I knew about it .

Never heard about him . Happens all the time .

never had a problem with anyone from GFY really, well except Candyflip copying and reselling my galleries from my portfolio hahaha.

I think the last person someone would want to fuck over for design around here would be me, I think its helped keep people from trying to stiff me ;)

I could seriously out some bad clients, fortunately I have never had to, not my style really.

But nah never had a problem with you or anyone in this thread, most of my clients hit me with the money and I knock out their work and all is good.

Well obviously heh.

Unfortunately, I have only had my own business for 4 years (since 23) and this is the only one I deal with others doing. Dealing with folks mostly via email or icq can be a headache, talking on the phone is much better.

I have found Canadians are quick to call the Us instead of yapping on icq, a deal can be so much sweeter if folks didnt rely on crappy tools like icq and email for business deals.

Ive closed 3k deals with never even hearing a voice, money was in my account the next morning... risks and trust, its all a factor.

At least when I leave the net, i am totally separated from business, it feels good to go outside

hahaha

I hear you on that one! I hate the people that don't have shit for you on what exactly they want, just a thought. And it's like, how the fuck I'm I suppose to do a project with no lead way on what you want!

There are some clients in my experience that take 2 hours + of time asking questions.

Sometimes inconvenient but worth it in my eyes to make them feel comfortable about ordering my service.

I don't blame anyone or find fault in being cautious or inexperienced.
