Can any programmer build a gfy search to use locally?

I havent been on gfy for that long, but why is search always down? Theres some great posts on here and the search helps me weed through the crap.

I was thinking about it in EscortBiz' thread. Wouldn't be hard to write either, just I know Lensman wouldn't like it if it was made public.

It annoys me a lot to see how fucking much this board makes in advertising and sponsors and the only reason for that is because WE post here. Getting something back shouldnt be this hard.

You can't really spider thru 3 million posts when you don't have access to the database ... this would kill the server & take hours to get your results

MySQL with PHP/Perl should be able to handle it. It's only plain text after all. I'd limit it to only 100 pages of threads though, just looking for search for the past few months.

I just use the Google site search feature. For example, if you were to type in:

site:www.gofuckyourself.com +cheap +teen +content

into the Google search window, you would receive back links to threads that contain all three words only from the GFY board. Not ideal, but it works for now...

It's be easy to just grab thread titles and cache them, but a full search of the entire DB would be a pain in the ass.

You would still need access to the main GFY db. I doubt lens is giving up passwords to that...:2 cents:

Or create a ripper script to crawl X amount of pages and grab all the thread urls (format of showthread.php), and throw all that data into a local database and doing the searches locally. Like I said though, I doubt lens would appreciate this.

Hrm... you seem to be right! I didn't notice I wasn't getting recent threads, since I was always looking for pretty basic information.

google hacking is fun mmkay. :p anyways why doesnt lens put a passphrase on the search everytime you do a search it asks for a keyword i am sure there is a plugin for that.

It'd be a bit of a hassle but doable.. you'd just need to have it like sit in your tray 24x7 and crawl the new threads that get made or bumped to the top.

Nearly 4 millions posts is going to be a big index though.

Try something like this as a start http://web4.hm/index.php?http://web4...search_en.html PHP and mysql and free. probablye will die on all of GFY but if you limit it to the last 30 days it should do ok
