I guess it gives them some sort of control over their own fucked up shit.

makes no sense to me either. Some people dont feel good about themselves unless they are making other people feel bad. It's just a fact.

Plus I am sure boredom plays a factor.

I'll only take criticism from designers and clients, not outsiders popping in ....
