Will you....split money with me?

Can anyone explain to me what real world applications marriage has besides binding together finances? Telling someone that you plan on being with them forever isn't good enough, you must, in essence, tell them "Let's own half of each other's stuff" before it's final. What does this really accomplish?

And don't say it's about the wedding day being a public declaration of love, because no woman is going to say "that's fine we can have the wedding but not make it legal." It has to be on paper that you own each other's money and possessions.

Doesn't mean shit to me. I'm never gonna get married, but there is also the common marriage law. So even if you dont' get married but live together for 7 years in Cali, and you break up, basically she can still get shit from you! It sucks!

i love my wife, but that's not why we got married.. it's for cheaper car insurance, more $$ for college from the govt, and a lot of $ at the wedding reception. :1orglaugh

I would never get married under the assumption that it would SAVE me money. The wedding alone is going to cost you money, plus you've got a 50-50 shot of a costly divorce. And dont' give me car insurance, cause I put my girlfriend on mine and it didn't cost shit. And we didn't have to get married :)

is this where were at today? looking at a marriage as nothing more than an expense? if you dont want to get married because the divorce will be expensive, you should probably find someone else who you might be with longer.

I didn't say a marriage would result in a divorce, I said it has a 50-50 shot. Enjoy la-la land if you think you don't have a 50-50 shot of a divorce.

love? a word people dont use correctly.
50-50 shot? probably because its nothing more than something to do for people these days. "i like you, you like me, we've known eachother for 6months! off to vegas we go!"

I think you're wrong about the commonlaw stuff, bro. I don't see Cali on the states list and it says you have to be presenting them as your wife and shit... Commonlaw stuff

But why does love mean binding your finances together? Can't it just mean a 100% committment forever?

People listen up don't stand too near
I got something that you all should hear.
All lies, all the lies she told to me
form a little part of history.
I was always taught that boy meets girl,
fall in love get married and forget the world.
Nine months later, the sweet baby's on the way.
Kiss 'em on the check and life's ok.
I don't feel, no pain. I don't have, no time
to listen to conflicting points of view.
It's a crazy world to live alone,
a ball and chain I call my own

People listen up don't stand too close
I got something that you all should know
Holy Matrimony is not for me.
Rather die alone in misery.
Because I was always taught that boy meets girl,
fall in love get married and forget the world.
Nine months later, the sweet baby's on the way.
Isn't that what they used to say?
With a girl that you knew,
and the bonds that we grew.
Turned into a ball and chain.
I step into the great unknown,
a ball and chain I call my own.

Crazy world to live alone

With a girl that you knew,
and the bonds that we grew,
turned into a ball and chain.
I step into the great unknown,
with a ball and chain I call my own.
Because marriage doesn't work in the world today
It's an institution that is in decay.
And if I have love I wish to portray,
I will surely find another way.

Because I was always taught boy meets girl,
fall in love get married and forget the world.
Nine months later the sweet baby's on the way,
Kiss 'em on the check and life's ok.
I don't feel no pain, I don't have no time
to listen to conflicting points of view
I step into the great unknown,
with a ball and chain I call my own

Child support can still be collected whether your wife owns half your business or not

i think getting married cost us about $300, justice of the peace @ the courthouse, and licence included.

it wasnt a big deal for us, like i said, just to make things easier, and as for divorce, that's a wussy way out of things. her parents and my parents have both been togeather since they were about 18, and still going great.. so we have strong family values from them.

plus, you havent seen her ass (yet). :Graucho

Right, a prenup is essential. But then everyone will say you're taking the romance out of it. You're still getting married, right? The only difference is you aren't handing over your possessions and money. And that takes all the romance out of it. What is romantic about that in the first place?
