Have been there a few times and if your looking just to hang out Carlsbad, CA is a cool place. Lots of food and shops to walk around. Don't know if that's out of your way but...:2 cents: :thumbsup

About 2 hours north on I 5 will get you there, supposing the traffic isn't too much of a bitch.

San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Historical District, many, many clubs and bars, malls...BEACHES

Los Angeles has so much going on it's nuts. But then again, LA is HUGE.

Enjoy. I'll see you at the show, but I'm coming home in time for my birthday. :)

It really depends what you want to do. It's such a big city and has so much to offer. Daytime, nightime, partying, relaxing, shopping, eating, ect..

If you like shopping go to the Fashion District in downtown L.A. Disneyland, Universal Studios, Melrose, etc..

Lots of things to do in L.A.
