Got Ripped off by GFY'ers - All must read
 

I am known to take shots at new and upcoming Content Providers and Designers and over the past 2 years I never been ripped off. However now it happend to me twice in one month and I am not happy.

I tried resolving the problem over the phone and via email to no prevail.

Rip-Off Number 1 - [email protected] answered my plea for Gallery Templates. I needed them quickly and he promised to deliver quickly. So I bit. On Apr. 16, 2004 I send 50% down via Paypal and the turn-around supposed to be 1 week later. I waited 10 days and didn't hear from him. I emailed and received a reply saying he had family problems and to be patient. uhm, well I needed a quick turn-around, however I gave him the benfit of the doubt and allowed him another 3 days. I waited 7 more days!! Nothing. I emailed and ICQ'd him telling him that it was crucial to have the templates by May 1st.. Nothing. so I hired somebody else to make them. Since May 1st now he has promised me on an almost daily basis to refund me my $ 125.00. I went to far than to tell him that I will give him until the 20th of May to refund my money. I looked to day - NOTHING - So looks like I can kiss it good-bye or start a Paypal dispute - So be aware everybody..

Rip-Off Number 2 - Now I do have to give the guy the benefit of doubt. He advertised his Springbreak CD on GFY and I was totally excited because I couldn't make it this year. So on April 9th I send him via Paypal $ 50.00 and soon after I received the supposent CD.. Well it came in DVD format and didn't work in any of my Computer DVD players, NADA, Nothing, empty space. I contacted the seller and asked him about it. He told me that he DID say that it would come on DVD and not CD Rom (uhm nope, he said CD) and that if he would put it on CD Rom it be like 6 CD's and maybe something is wrong with my DVD Player. Well nothing is wrong with it, matter of fact I just bought a brand new laptop and it doesn't work there either. He told me to send the DVD back to him and he would replace it for me.. I told him I needed it in CD format and asked if that was possible.. Well I never got an answer back from him. I don't want to send the DVD back unless I get CD's back. Now I know the guy is reptuable on GFY and I never beat on people unless its getting annoying.

It's getting annoying - His company is Rpet Entertainment, Inc. So http://www.adultaffiliateservices.com if you read this, could you please answer me. Tell me if you can send me CD';s instead of the DVD and I will return your DVD today (or whenever you answer me)

about the dvd thing, I burn a lot of dvd and do a lot of video editting . I don't understand why, but sometimes, random ones, only work on my computer and not in my 3 dvd drives ... Really really weird . I still don't understand a part of this technology.

Same here, I have 5 DVD players here (xbox included) and some burning stuff works on the home cinema player only others only on a hp dvd burner.........................:glugglug

This might be the problem, I am totally bummed out about that.. I know the guy has a good rep here... Maybe he is on vaccation or something. I am going to try to email him again

can you input your tv's DVD player into your computer? idea

Sir.. it has to be on DVD.. its over 4.7GB of content.. a CD only holds 780MB? it I was to put on cd.. I would be shorting you a ton of content? It wont work in a regular dvd player.. you have to have a dvd drive in your computer.. they are only 30.00 at walmart? it is well worth the money to get one.

I would really advice against buying templates from anyone without a rep around this board.

People have been sold my teplates by shady designers who post and do deals on icq with no reputation.

People like Candyflip and others are always quick to offer you a cheaper deal, but at what cost?

What would you do if a so called reputable webmaster exposed your complete members area to a chatroom or any other way publicly for that matter? That's what happened to me. aIt's left a bitter taste in my mouth about things...Fuckers need to grow up and HANDLE FUCKIN BUSINESS.

Well, there is a real simple solution. You spend 45 minutes putting it on six or seven CDs. That's what customer service is. It always amazes me when someone who runs a business would rather argue with a customer than just do what it takes to fix the problem. I especially love the implication that you're too stupid to know you need a computer DVD drive to get at the content.

For the record, I don't believe I have ever dealt with the guy and he my have a wonderful operation but stuff like this leaves me shaking my head. Just put it on some CDs, man.

Have you tried a dvd ripper program like "smartripper" to pull out the ifo & vob files onto your hard drive..and then convert them to whatever format you want?

I know you shouldn't have to do that seeing you asked for it "ready to go", but in case you don't get a solution to your problem..at least there is that possibility.

If the ifo & vob files are on the DVD, wouldn't the size show up as something? Not just blank?

could also be that session hasnt been closed... some dvd players wont read the content and the disk appears unformatted

i've had this happen to me... had close the session first then everything worked fine

Tell the asswipe to load them up someplace, and you can download them. Even set him up a temp user to your server??...just a thought.:2 cents:

Maybe he's not using it as a regular dvd, but a data dvd. Which in some cases would fuck up on other types of DVD-Roms. Or he's using a piece of shit software that doesn't work right with other DVD-Roms.

So many different things fuck it up. In my own experience, I've burned DVD's as an actual DVD & as a data DVD. And sometimes, a DVD Rom can read them, it would have to be an actual DVD burner.

Yeah it would. Re-read her post, and I originally took her statement of "blank" like: It was like playing a blank cd.

So, if the guy just sent her an empty cd..that's WAAAY foul!
Unless he honestly sent her the wrong thing.
Guess we'll find out eventually.

Im sorry about this whole thing and off course I totally fucked this up no doubt about it and presumably I will never design for money again. I have no good explanation, besides that someone in my famliy is sick, but off course thats not your problem Steffie. You have shown me patience and I appreciate that. I will off course send you your money and I never intend to rip you off.
I hope I can get a second chance somewhere, though I dont deserve that. I tried to icq you Steffie, I will try again later.

I emailed him again asking to answer me. No answer so far..

Regarding "Welcome to the Adult Industry" I been doing this for a while and actually have met some really good designer when they first started off and now they are pretty popular and reliable, that goes for content producers as well.

I had some problems viewing some DVD's on my new computer cuz the video card drivers needed to be installed whatever drivers windowsXP used when it was installed didnt work for the DVD's but did everything else.
