Seat belt laws

Reason I ask I just saw a commerical on tv and they are saying its a coast to coast thing now that the cops can ticket you if you are not wearing one.

I guess I'll be getting a shit load of them. I wont ware the seat belts.

Been in an auto accident (When I was the driver) been in one when I was a passsanger. And I was hurt more as the passanger wearing, over being the driver and not wearing one.

The thing that really chaps my ass is, how can the country get away with this. I does not impair my driving abilty what so ever not wearing one. Who the fuck in congress gives them the right telling me I have to wear one. Its just not right. As I said before I will be getting a lot of tickets.

Whats your thoughts??

Morgan 05-19-2004 08:43 PM

its really not that hard. may even save your life one day.

jennym 05-19-2004 08:45 PM

I think it should be required for anyone under 18. I also think that everyone SHOULD wear one, but as an adult you shouldn't be FORCED BY LAW.

I started wearing mine the day I found out I was pregnant.:)

Amp 05-19-2004 08:45 PM

I got a seatbelt ticket 2 weeks ago. I was the passenger.

yes, they can and will write you a ticket.

Simple fact is, we don't give a shit if you die, but it costs taxpayers money. They've done studies and found you're more likely to survive a bad accident if you have a seatbelt on.

Personally, I don't give a shit if you live or die as long as it doesn't cost me more in tax dollars than if you live. Unfortunately, it does.

Can't argue with that piece of highly scientific research.

The point is it shouldnt be forced upon someone that doesnt want to wear a belt.
As I said wearing a belt or not wearing one doesnt affect ones driving abilty.

Its plain out a fucked up issue.

I've heard that before, but I bet the chances are you'll get hurt more without a seat belt. And now that's why it's required.

Titty Fucker 05-19-2004 08:55 PM

Just another reason for the police to pull you over, and check you out. :2 cents:

MattO 05-19-2004 08:55 PM

I don't want the unseatbelted sonofabitch I just front-ended flying through his window and smashing into me, thank you very much.

nathan_f 05-19-2004 09:01 PM

i watched a rollover demonstration the other day, they do it with the dummies strapped in, and not strapped in... i'd much rather have my belt on thanks..

I don't see why you wouldn't wear one, it could save your life.

Basically the reason they are making it a law is they got tired of scraping people off their windshields.

Really, some laws should be questioned, but why you would question driving laws? They are only there to help people stay alive. :2 cents:

Living For Today 05-19-2004 09:06 PM

In Australia it's always been a law. It's a huge fine and 3 points loss if you get caught without a seat belt.

I don't know why the fuck you wouldn't wear a seat belt anyway. It's just plain common sense.

smokingdawn 05-19-2004 09:06 PM

I like it!

Matiz 05-19-2004 09:08 PM

Wear it and you will live longer.

Rictor 05-19-2004 09:11 PM

I wrote an editorial for a newspaper on this subject when I was in college. It's always a hot issue with rednecks who always want to fight anything that saves their lives and saves the rest of us time and money.

baycouples 05-19-2004 09:13 PM

In CA this law has been in place for a while. Even if your passenger has no seat belt on - you get the ticket.

You have to be an idiot not to use the seat belts. I just hate to be stuck in traffic, while they are scraping your sorry ass off of the road.

not everyone dies from not wearing a seat belt.
Its just that congrass getting into each and everyones rights. If I choose not to wear one i should not be ticked for my choise.

And its not really saving you money. The main reason that insurance companys have price increases is becasue the non-insured drivers. And if they are non insured they are more then likely to be wearing a belt to not get busted by the law.

i'm fairly sure that fatalities aren't exactly inexpensive.

It really is all about the money. Same for bike helmets, too many deaths, not enough insurance, all adds up to tax payer money.

SlickRick 05-19-2004 09:24 PM

Ok if seat belts saves lives how come there are no belts on busses. A seat belt on a plane coming up fast on the earth is not going to save your life...

There are no helmet laws for bikers here in AZ

Driving is a privelege, not your right. And you are agreeing to abide by the laws that regulate it when you get your license.

Since you think it should be your god given choice to do as you please out there, why not expand that to all road laws? Why should anyone have to stop at a red light if they don't feel like it? Why should you have to drive the speed limit? Who is the jackass that made the dumb rule saying we all have to go the same direction on one side of the interstate? And why the hell can't I stop and have a little nap in the middle of the road if I'm so inclined?

silly rules.

Dr1ft3r 05-19-2004 09:33 PM

most of our buses are coming out with seatbelts now.

try surviving this without a seatbelt..

Driving is a privelege
that sounds like someone that just got your license.

again you are missing my point.

People will always run red lights, people will get in accidents, people will always speed.

But AS I SAID before wearing or not wearing a belt will not affect my abilty to drive a car, just as everyone else. And I beleive its totally againsts one of our amendments. By me not wearing belt doesn't put anyone else what so ever in any type of danger. And I have that right just as every American does.

what part of "it's the law" don't you understand?
Sure, you can "choose" not to wear it, but don't complain when you get the ticket then either.

2 weeks ago, I "chose" not to wear mine. And I got a ticket. And I didn't complain about it.

That's because your head took the impact when you were driving
and something else took the impact when you were a passenger.

I think seatbelts really helps save lives.

reynold 05-20-2004 02:52 AM

Always use seat belts. Its for your own protection!

webseth 05-20-2004 04:48 AM

wearing a seat belt is like wearing a condom, all the time everytime is the only way its effective.

ADL Colin 05-20-2004 05:53 AM

Seat belt laws are draconian. I want my freedom back!

StRoGE 05-20-2004 05:54 AM

Its another way for the government to take our money.
Gotta pay for those $20,000 toilet seats somehow.

Whats your thoughts??

It's been like that for like 30 years where i live - and since congress also tells you how fast you can go on the highway - this is simply just an added rule to the automotive laws - dont see the big deal
