Geez AI is leaving so much money on the table

Just reading that over 100 Million call attempts aren't going through every time they do the voting on American Idol.

If they added a paid 900 number on there, not only would they get a fairer vote with more calls getting through, but also make millions of dollars every night from the hundreds of thousands of viewers that would gladly pay a premium just to be sure their vote is counted.

Hell yea, I would have a 900 number and charge 6$ a minute.

:Graucho

smokingdawn 05-19-2004 06:12 PM

LOL...And people would actually pay to call it

EscortBiz 05-19-2004 06:13 PM

65% of the us cannot call 900 numbers as of early 04

SykkBoy 05-19-2004 06:14 PM

I've said this as well
go pay per call

but problem is they're better off this way as there is a sense of urgency and and they can brag about the number of calls (which impresses advertisers)

They are making a lot more from fan loyalty. That's like saying Consumption Junction should charge a couple of dollars a month. I'd kill my fan base.

MTV tried using 900 numbers years ago to vote for top videos and the system failed.

ALternate 900 or sms billing number for a buck that counts as two votes.
Regular line equals one vote. :1orglaugh

Yes but that still leaves millions of households.

Good one! :1orglaugh

I agree with Rick.

Plus there'd be more crap about American Idol being racist/prejudice cause they're not the poor black folk express their vote by charging for calls :2 cents:

I did the MTV Hot or Not? version of American Idol LOL. We started off with a boy band type singer in LA who had some potential, shot a music video for him and then hooked up with MTV to run the spots.

After the calls started slamming in, he called and said how was it looking so far. I had to say I've got great news and bad news. The good news is were making a ton of 900 calls, the bad news is 99% of the people are voting NOT! He flipped out on us and MTV and said he was going to sue us all for ruining his music career forever.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

We dropped the project after that. MTV thought there'd be too much liability associated with it that could indeed really impact people's careers.

I vote Fantasia
