Google GMAIL upped 1,000,000 MEGS!
But I think I'll have to pass.
With storage space like this, I can see people basically making automated gmail-based G2G file sharing systems in the future. (G2G being gmail to gmail) It wouldn't be very smart. But people will probably do it anyway. Then one day after Google has everyone addicted to Gmail and G2G file sharing, they will probably start charging per gigabyte of download & clean up. Here is the article about the storage space hike.... http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-5215599.html |
I never needed more than 50mb mail space. So fuck that.

Google could make another fortune by letting people upload all they want, no rate limits etc, or xfer files between other gmail users, but then only give each account X gigs of downloads of file attachments per month. If you want more download capabilities, you'll have to upgrade to a paid account. I think its definitely part of their plan now. |

use it for off site storage

any release group with half a brain releases .rars roughly 15mb a piece. if within that's the size of an attachment they allow, then you can send to any movie/game/software to any other gmail account...
that place sounds like it'll be a huge warez haven.. |
On the other hand....
I subscribe to a bunch of technie mailing lists & it gets annoying to have some that I only subscribed to so I could post once and ask a question & was too busy/lazy/whastever to unsubscribe from the mailing list right away. With Gmail I assume I could sign up to 100 of those lists and have it all properly filtered into folders without worrying about the email account being disabled by going over the space allocation (:321GFY hotmail) Then when I need to post to the list, I'm already signed up and authorized to do so. hrmmmmmmm I suppose I will be getting a gmail account after all. |

They will be able to claim they have no control over what their users use it for. But they will likely profit bigtime from anyone wanting to use gmail to suck download large amounts of files. Again.... I predict that in the near future of gmail we'll see: Unmetered (no rate limit) Uploads - FREE Gmai to Gmail transferrs - FREE X gigs of download xfer per month - FREE Over X gigs, $X per gig. And that is where they'll make biiiiiiiiiiilions. |
im still trying to get an email account...when do they open up for everyone?
