Google question

So i have this site that was indexed on a word from the page. Now i dont want people to come to that site through a search for that word.
I deleted that word 6 weeks ago and still google shows the site when typing in that word.

Why and how to stop it?

beemk 05-18-2004 04:04 AM

wait until google re indexes the page. thats their cached version they're going by, not the one you have on the site.

Yes that obvious but does this usually take more than 6 weeks?

Damn, no possibility to speed these up?
Can you ask google to block certain words to your website?

TheMob 05-18-2004 04:36 AM

you could block or forward a certain google search (referer) through your .htaccess file.. i would think :)

Ron2k1 05-18-2004 05:02 AM

Why do you care about a few more people coming from google.com? Does it really hurt your site?

NaughtyAlysha 05-18-2004 05:05 AM

Change the site name and make a 404. It is not really a solution, as long as the site is in the index, but the surfer won't find what he is searching for. I did it as someone made a complaint about one of my sites, and it was ok.

Wait for the index change.

If your site has enough PR (4 or more) it should be much faster. If not, it can take a month. IMO 6 weeks is too much.

Dirty F 05-18-2004 06:55 AM

Thanks.

And no, its not cp ofcourse. And it isnt hurting my site. Its a personal thing, the wrong keyword ended up at the wrong site.

I guess i'll shoot google a mail and ask them why it takes this long.

Urgent requests to remove webpages from Google's index can be done here: http://services.google.com:8882/urlc...&lastcmd=login

You may need to be the webmaster and edit the pages to prove your identity to do this.

Anytime, the changes you do via the above will place a 90 day removal and by then their spiders should have come by and permanently made the updates.

The higher the PR the more often Google updates. Six weeks is a long time esp if your trying to recover from a drop in page ranking for a kw
