Has To Be Said......"Troy" is NO "Gladiator"

Saw "Troy" premiere nite.........the best I can give it is to say its merely good, and that's all..........if you're expecting a movie as good as "Gladiator" you will be disappointed.

I thought Bana was the best part of that picture. Helen of Troy was quite hot of course, but they sure didn't go out of their way to develop her character.

:2 cents:

Blaze 05-17-2004 09:59 AM

I saw Troy last night, and I wasnt dissapointed.

It is true it was no Gladiator, but I didnt expect it to be. I am not a big fan of Brad Pitt, but I think he played a pretty amusing badass in this movie.

EviLGuY 05-17-2004 10:16 AM

Yeah it was an alright movie.. better then I really even expected going in. :)

arial 05-17-2004 10:18 AM

You thought Gladiator was good?

Movie just didn't do it for me. :(

Tala 05-17-2004 10:27 AM

I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up. :thumbsup :thumbsup

If you've read the Illiad and the Odessey, you'll find that it goes along the story exceptionally well. Orlando Bloom plays a very good pussy, Paris was no swordsman, but a highly acclaimed archer.

Brad Pitt plays Achilles well. Funny and completely arrogant, which makes him all the funnier, especially when he's not supposed to be funny.

Eric Bana (izzat right?) made a good Hector. And yes, Helen was HOT. Yum. :Graucho

I can't compare it to Gladiator, because I didn't see Gladiator. But for a 2 hour and 42 minute movie, Troy was well worth the $7 to see.

Jill_J 05-17-2004 11:36 AM

still haven`t seen it... worth seeing? :helpme

zzgundamnzz 05-17-2004 03:52 PM

Whats with all the Gladiator Comparisons... not even the same time period.

This is when the Greeks were at there peak. Before they were assimilated by the Romans.

stevecore 05-17-2004 03:53 PM

Saw it yesterday... Pitt can only play a psycho well (i.e 12 monkeys, fight club), anything having to do with drama or actual feeling, he pisses all over it.

The movie was almost complete devoid of any emotion or Oscar-caliber acting. I should've waited for it on DVD... thats the feeling I walked out with.

Stasia 05-17-2004 03:53 PM

I haven't seen the movie yet, but am really looking forward to it. I hope that it turns out to be good. http://www.stasiastyles.com/stas18.jpg

stev0 05-17-2004 03:54 PM

i'll probably wait till its out on DVD...

axelcat 05-17-2004 03:54 PM

Im sure troy is a cool movie but gladiator was a classic

I don't know about that. Brad Pitt was good in Legends of the Fall.

LadyMischief 05-17-2004 03:56 PM

I still can't wait to see Troy :)

NakedBo 05-17-2004 03:56 PM

I still have to go see it. I have seen a program on tv last night on how they made the movie and it looks like an cool movie to go too

Bo

marko13 05-17-2004 04:00 PM

you have to give the film time to be good. You aren't make the fortune for the film. The majority do. so wheather or not troy will be good film.

is she helen of Troy ? :Graucho

Sidenote :

After Goodfellas (my very top 1), Gladiator is the best movie I seen in my life, and I seen a lot...

After this, not in particular order :

the ususal suspect
scarface
devils advocate
casino

merlin77 05-17-2004 04:32 PM

I still can't wait to see it. I definately loved Gladiator, but it's in no way comparable with Troy.

Nysus 05-17-2004 04:33 PM

I'm still not sold on seeing it in theatres, but I think it'd be good to see it on big screen, with big sound, etc..

Cheers,
Matt

ALiEn_OuT 05-17-2004 04:41 PM

:1orglaugh thats not sayin' much. I dunno, Troy was a good movie but certainly not great, and I have to say I wasn't moved by any of it whereas I was completely into Gladiator. It was kinda disappointing what with the expectations put on it as it had to live up to one of the greatest stories ever, The Iliad. Definately not in the LOTR movies category regarding living up to the books on the big screen.

Oh well. Guess we'll have to check out "The Day After Tomorrow" next, although that one will probably not be very deep.......but I'm looking to it irregardless.

sltr 05-17-2004 04:50 PM

tru gladiator is the superior flick.

i was wondering what troy would have been like if crowe had played achilles??

ironic that paris was the fucker that killed achilles,
in reality, helen came to loathe paris, not love him, hahh

TweetyBird 05-17-2004 04:52 PM

I had planned to go see it friday night... darn, I'm not sure anymore :)

EnigmaTek 05-17-2004 04:53 PM

I couldn't tell which character Brad Pitt was trying to portray?

Helen or Troy McClure, hello you may remember me from such movies as Smokey and the Ass Bandit or Lensman, the Man the Myth

lol, no shit,
those close-up wind-in-the-hair strong-chinned shots were totally over-the-top-hahhhah

AVM 05-17-2004 06:48 PM

Troy > Gladiator

Do not get me wrong, Troy was nothing amazing. It was just simply "good". Not great, but sure as hell better than Gladiator. I didn't like that movie at all.

NikkiNevada 05-17-2004 06:57 PM

I watched Troy lastnight. Personally, I really liked the movie. It's especially good if you're a huge Brad Pitt fan like me :thumbsup

Shooter 05-17-2004 06:58 PM

I haven't seen it yet, but my friends liked it a lot.

reynold 05-17-2004 07:16 PM

I've seen the movie. I think it's ok but nothing really spectacular about it.

Mr. Marks 05-17-2004 08:24 PM

Troy is a good movie actually, but nothing compares to Russell Crowe's "Gladiator". It was an awesome movie and is worth watching again.

Yeah, that kind of concerns me . . . . I did not think Gladiator was that good, but I really want to see Troy . . . maybe I should wait for it to hit Fox Thursday Night Movie

ebonycoed1 05-17-2004 08:41 PM

I heard that Troy sucked, I really was hyped up to see it but I hear lots of bad reviews coming back. That it wasnt really based on the epic and a lot of people that werent supposed to die, died and the people that were supposed to die didnt

Nah, I can't say it sucked cause it didn't. But it wasn't a great movie either..........its a "tweener", merely good.........so if you go into it with big expectations, you will be disappointed. But if you go in thinking you are seeing a good movie, and not great, then you'll be ok with it.

bhutocracy 05-18-2004 01:06 AM

I want to see it for the same reason im going to see "the day after", brainless epic movie to be watched on the big screen, i like bana as an actor, and pitt certainly has his moments but im not expecting much after watching the preview where he says "it's yours - take it!" with all the conviction of a corny highschool play... no gravitas or whatever.

Yeah he wasn't exactly like King Theoden rallying the troops to courage up at the Fields of Pelleanor in "Return of the King, " or Aragorn doing the same at the Black Gates entrance. Or how about Crowe in "Gladiator".........his unleash hell line.....loved it.....

But still Troy was an ok movie, just nothin' great.

=^..^= 05-18-2004 02:10 AM

i thought gladiator sucked
saw it again on tv a few nights ago - and it just confirmed to me that it really did suck
so i HOPE troy is better

pure energy 05-18-2004 03:22 AM

I haven't seen Troy yet so... :(
