Actually, my girlfriend loves Vernors. She's always drinking ginger ale when she has an upset stomach or she has a fever.

Funny you should mention it. Last night I ate pepperoni pizza and woke up with a terrible stomach ache. Drank a Canada Dry Ginger Ale and felt a hell of a lot better.

graphicsbytia 05-17-2004 09:56 AM

it does work, crystalized ginger works well too, it's a natural foods stomach remedy

TheLegacy 05-17-2004 09:58 AM

from what I know, the bubbles and gas that it has assists in breaking down the stuff in your stomach that is causing you pain.

A few good burps and your set. It also absorbs.

Agreed. It has always worked for me. If your gut is killing you sip a glass of ginger ale.

Better even than that Juicy, is some ground up ginger powder, like a quarter or half a teaspoon, in a glass of water. I didn't believe it would work either but it was my mother's suggestion when my stomach was really bad............and it works every time.

:thumbsup

Juicy D. Links 05-17-2004 09:59 AM

Nice

When i was young my mom would say that to me... i thought she was just bullshitting

erehwon 05-17-2004 10:01 AM

Juicy,

There are two cases of Redbull and two cases of Canada Dry Ginger Ale, (at the home and office) both I highly recommend hands down, and thumbs way up! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Nope.......you can take that one to the bank........an inexpensive yet effective way to settle the stomach.......I find the ginger powder way more effective as sometimes the acid from the ginger ale can cut the gingers effectiveness down.

I like Vernors too. But once I drank Vernors with an upset stomach instead of Gingerale because none was available...

I regretted it cause it made me vomit...

Now when i'm healthy, vernors is some good shit. ONe of the most unique tasting sodas on the market.

My child's doctor told me that the processed ginger ale contains chemicals and acids that negate any ginger benefits. (this was also mentioned above).

He said to also stay away from sprite and 7-up which have citrus acid. He said the best soft drink remedy is a good ol' fashioned Coke along with saltine crakers.

BTW, I asked the doctor about ginger ale because one of my son's friends was in the car with us with an upset stomach so I bought him a can of ginger ale. Five minutes later he blew chunks all over my backseat.

Tuna 05-17-2004 10:19 AM

i sure hope so. i picked up a case of canada dry yesterday for that exact reason

EviLGuY 05-17-2004 10:22 AM

Yeah I dont believe that ginger ale bs.. :glugglug

emmanuelle 05-17-2004 10:40 AM

Ginger Ale does not contain any ginger.
While the properties of any soda may or may not calm your stomach, real ginger is known for it's anti-nausea effects.

Try running a touch of ginger root through your juice machine with an apple, and then adding club soda for real ginger ale

MaDalton 05-17-2004 10:42 AM

ginger ale and white bread help against sea sickness - just in case anybody wanted to know... :)

count blingula 05-17-2004 10:47 AM

smoke high grade weed then the ginger ale!:thumbsup

SS396chevelleSS 05-17-2004 10:49 AM

my mom says so :)

Sarah_Jayne 05-17-2004 10:53 AM

yeah it is the ginger not the ale bit. My folks used to run whale watching tours and the people that ran the boat always had ginger snaps on board to cure the nippy tummies.

emmanuelle 05-17-2004 10:56 AM

I went whale watching off the coast of Newfoundland-

:1orglaugh That must suck but really cracked me up :eek7

SykkBoy 05-17-2004 11:20 AM

let the ginger ale sit on the counter for a bit and let the bubbles die down and it'll work great
slightly flat ginger ale is also good for pregnant women with morning sicknes (my wife had really bad morning sickness and it worked well)
also, all natural ginger snaps will work well too (get them at Trader Joe's and make sure they are the all natural ones, those work well too

Odie 05-17-2004 11:52 AM

flat gingerale is good for u but try adding Angostura bitters to it as well. it's really good for the tummy.

I went snowboarding last year in the US and we went to a bar there and I ordered a rye and ginger and the bartender didn't know what I was talking about. She tried to make me some ginger ale by mixing sprite and a splash of coke...

Is ginger ale only available in some parts of the US?:)

Nysus 05-17-2004 12:04 PM

It's ginger root that is good for you. Gingerale pop has relatively little ginger root in it, so try making your own tea/ginger drink, or you can buy some real ginger drinks, one that comes to mind is the Bluesky brand.

Cheers,
Matt

Easton 05-17-2004 12:06 PM

it's true... but make sure to get a quality ginger ale with real ginger extract, or else it's a waste of time

baddog 05-17-2004 01:07 PM

ginger snaps work well too . . . . and taste better
