Little-known software you can't live without.

Is there any nearly unknown software you use a lot that you absolutely can't live without? I browse download.com once in a while and I occasionally come across something that kicks major ass. I personally use "TrayClip" from http://www.chtsoft.com/TrayClip.htm

Since I am a programmer, I have a few snippets of code that I frequently use. TrayClip allows me to keep all the snippets of code organized so I can paste them in easily. It also keeps track of the last X number of items that were in your clipboard so you can easily paste them again if necessary. I couldn't live without this little program.

I've been looking for something like that, thanks Armed & Hammered!!

Here's one for you, it's a little app that grabs any color from a page and tells you the hex code for it, I use it all the time

enjoy ;)

Its worth checking out those sites on occassion. You can find some pretty neat stuff like that. Other things are useless for the most part but still fun to play with.

Flash Renamer 4.6

http://www.rlvision.com/flashren/about.asp

I deal with a lot of renaming of clips, pictures, html files, folders, etc....

This does it all, from random naming, to enumerating, adding, cropping.

This program is a serious life savor and works with folders as well...

For people that do a lot of free hosted stuff,.. like we do. This is a must have!

dnsmonster 05-17-2004 09:42 AM

UltraMon

A must-have for dual-monitor setups. Allows you to have the task bar spread to both screens and adds two buttons to the menu that let you move windows between the screens or maximize them to both screens.

I did a page that has all the colors and tells you what the hex codes are, some time ago.

not the same thing.. this tells you exactly what hex code a color is just by grabbing it from the page. Say for example, you wanted to use some colors that you saw in a picture you liked, or better still need to match a background color to an image

download it and try it.. you'll see what I mean, its a great little tool

TaskTracker - Keeps all your files you most recently have been using easy to click right back to. Increases your productivity immensely because you don't have to spend time searching for them on your PC.

Program is FreeWare. Note if you install you may need to download a 2nd file called support.exe if you use MS Office. This adds a .dll that the program needs in office.

I have been using TextPad for about 6 years now and have it installed on every computer I use, it's even installed on my dads computer for when I'm visiting. I use it daily, couldn't live without it though I'm sure there are other similar programs.

Doctor Dre 08-07-2004 07:10 PM

Absolute FTP . This is by FAR the best ftp client and the most user friendly in the 10 + I have tried. Also does fxp, multiple connections at the same time that are very easy to manage . I don't understand why it's so underground, I've been using it for years now .

Vitasoy 08-07-2004 07:12 PM

Yup, me too. I just can't live without that software. It was called Windows Commander before. I don't know why he changed the name.

I love this program called Tray It!

http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm

TrayIt! allows to save precious Taskbar space for minimized windows. For each application which applies TrayIt! it creates a small icon in the System Tray. (System Tray area is located near the Clock). When application's window is minimized this icon represents the application on the Taskbar instead of the regular "minimized rectangle".

It is particularly useful for background tasks you typically keep running on your PC all day long like your favorite E-mail client, Real Player, etc.

Yep, I started using it the day she posted a link to it. Before that I used to take a screenshot of whatever I wanted to snag the color from and use the eyedropper in PS to grab the color.:1orglaugh

LiteStep It completely changes the Windows GUI and is somewhat difficult to setup -- but incredibly useful.

I've been using it for over 3 years now; I am way more productive when I use a PC with it installed. There are hundreds of custom GUIs you can download, I use a Gnome theme. The things I find most useful are 1) launching apps with keyboard shortcuts and 2) the virtual desktop interface which simulates 4 desktop spaces/screens that I can quickly switch back and forth between. I don't know what I'd do without it.

fr8 08-07-2004 07:58 PM

Yep have alot of them. Karen's Power Tools for my windows box. Its an alarm. And for linux I use CenterICQ. But its alot more known.
