popups on good type in name urls

does this make sense - i type in some good known porn companies names and i get 5 popups before i even load the site. - i'm talking BRAND NAMES - big porn brand names here.

ok, i can see an exit consol or two as a good idea - and maybe a little pop to see something special and bring it to one;s attention- but 5 before i even have a chance to look at what i typed in - in the first place??? it blows me away how someone can sell themselves short like that - if someone came for a particular site on a type in - why not at LEAST let them have the CHANCE of seeing the site they wanted to see and are most liky to BUY as it's what they came there for - before hitting them with popups????

or am i not making ANY sense there?

It makes totall sense. I've noticed the same thing and it drives me insane. The least they could do is pop under, or pop on exit. The amount of potential customers they are losing is probably immense.

even if it's a popunder - you see it in the tool bar - as a surfer i focus on closing them down once they start comming.

i see the need for popups when someone leaves - and maybe a small one to bring something to a person's attention. but with a type in where someone is looking for a specific site if you get hit with popups like that what are the chances of that same person looking at the tour and then comming back tomorrow to experience those popups again?

the lose in repeat customers must be enormous compared to the short term gain of the popups on page load

I gotta agree with the general complaint here...

exits are fine, if done with taste these days...surfers are MUCH more sophisticated than the late 80s...or early 90s...

give them a fairwell shot at something interesting makes a lot more sense than circlejerking their asses into the ground..........................................UN LESSSSSSS someone has nothing but pure unadulterated crap hits....ie; 1:5000 uniques type of drudge....

abuse that shit and send it to trades...but to treat good traffic on solid domains like CJ hits is pretty 'wack' imo....

ok, enough babbeling for me....

night fuggers...

:winkwink: :thumbsup

I couldn't agree with you more. As a surfer, I NEVER see the popup, due to my use of a popup blocker. The annoying click that it makes when a popup is present though drives me nuts. As a site owner, I'd rather keep bookmarkers coming back, rather than having 1 time surfers that'll forever avoid my domain like the plague.

Isn't there a script that'd recognize type-in's and bookmarkers and only pop individuals who were referred from another site? If not, it seems as if a simple fix would be to give trade partners a different URL that'd pop referrers while leaving SE and type-in traffic alone.
