Internet connection monitor program?

Hello guys,

Currently here at home I'm connected to the internet through two connections: DSL and cable. I would like to test them thorougly and then decide which one to keep.

Of course there are free speedtest websites all over the place but these give an impression of one single moment. What I need is a utility that runs on my pc and tests for connection capacity every 10 mins or so. Then I would have a nice image of the connection's performance throughout say a week.

I've been searching for such an application all over the web but I simply cannot find one. Perhaps you guys can help me with one. Thanks!

Tim

thanks nemesis, but as far as i can find out visualware only provides webbased speedtest software. which does not offer me the possibility to test on a regular basis. i need a clientside utility that i can run for a few days non-stop.

i'd go with the cable over DSL... never heard of any software that would test like that though.

well, one thing i already found out manually is that the dsl's performance is ok and very constant, while the cable sometimes outperforms the dsl, and sometimes is slower than the dsl. this depends on the time of day.
so that's why i would like to see a performance graph for a few days in a row... wondering how much the cable is really fluctuating...

I don't know shit technically speaking, but I've had both and as far as downloading info and what have you, I think the cable has usually seemed a little quicker for me. But I think DSL can have faster uploads. :2 cents:

I used to have DSL downstairs and cable upstairs. After having both for a few months I eventually chose to stick with DSL. Cable in my area slows down too much during peak hours and DSL upload speeds were better. Seeing as how I spend a fair amount of time uploading shit to webspace etc I figured it would be a better choice.
DSL was also slightly cheaper for me if I remember correctly.

Line Speed Meter from TCPIQ.com can do what you want, and it's more accurate than that java based garbage on every other speed test site.
