So Are You Getting "SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:" Emails Yet?

lol, I love that new law.

I still get a shitload of spam, but a good portion of it is now using "SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT" in the subject which makes it very easy to filter and identify.

I guarantee you'll start to see it soon. All my sponsors have been sending me emails regarding this new change in their mailer policies. Most smart mailers are obeying these new laws because if not, their account becomes very easy to term for breaking TOS.

really? Me neither. To me, "spam" is just the word "Maps" spelled backwards :glugglug

SykkBoy 05-14-2004 10:21 PM

my spam has trickled to almost non-existant
thanks for Netscape Mail's junkfilter and it getting used to things I've actually really opted into and haven't

Sambo 05-14-2004 10:23 PM

I would imagine most email providers r just going to filter it before it reaches anyones inbox...

Waste of time sending it :2 cents:

JulianSosa 05-14-2004 10:24 PM

Does anyone know the if the ftc rules apply for some one in england sending to a sponsor who is in poland?

The Truth Hurts 05-14-2004 10:30 PM

i've gotten two... total.

I liked this: "This offer was sent to you on behalf of: erupting pussy"

not only that, they both seemed to contain some secret coded messages at the bottom..

haven't gotten one clearly marked SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT yet... i guess all the people sending me spam didn't get their emails from topbucks, ce, etc.

TheDoc 05-15-2004 01:04 AM

1:100 spams I get is porn.. The rest are some other fucked up ad, fix my credit, by a house, pills, drugs, cigs, everything but porn these days.

I average 400-600 spam e-mails a day.. Nice to watch what others are doing.

Babel 05-15-2004 01:20 AM

yeah, for adult DVD, but it was a porn site

Alex Xe 05-15-2004 01:30 AM

That would really suck if the large isp's would start blocking them on the server level. I could see them facing lawsuits with people who have legit double opt in lists and can't get through

Project-Shadow 05-15-2004 03:56 AM

Haven't had one that says Sexually-Explicit... still the same old shit. -_-'

it's a USA law so I would think no, but better check with your sponsors.

Jakke PNG 05-15-2004 06:46 AM

Yup I've had the sexually-explicit: spams for a good 4-5 days now.

Radik 05-15-2004 06:52 AM

I get tons of spam, none with the new tag tho.. odd

Raf1 05-15-2004 07:34 AM

I think that's an attempt to evade bayesian based spam filters by trying to out-weigh commonly high-ranked spam related keywords
e.g (marketing/refinancing/etc) with non spam related keywords, when checking the body of the text the filter would pick very few spam words in comparison to the junk words in the bottom, and perhaps give it a lower ranking as spam (doesn't work very well)

DR_PHIL 05-15-2004 07:48 AM

no tags for me yet

EviLGuY 05-15-2004 07:57 AM

I don't get a lot of ADULT spam to begin with.. it's all pre-made logos and shit like that.

basschick 05-15-2004 10:31 AM

wow, today i woke up and checked my email. there were no "Sexually Explicit" emails - but there was also almost no porn spam.

and that is when i realized that porn spam is no more than 10% of my email. mortgages, valium, big penis, and all the rest are still coming like normal - and they're most of it. damn!

RawAlex 05-15-2004 11:43 AM

What I haven't figured out is this:

if I run double opt in (confirmed members only, real opt out, etc) mailing for free site members, would I have to put that in the subject line even if the client has asked for the mail?

I understand SPAM, but opt in mailers ain't spam, right?

Alex

JulianSosa 05-15-2004 01:16 PM

I believe you do have to put it in Alex.

I'm wrestling with that too... If you HAVE to put sexualy-explicit in front of your double optinsn I see no future anymore in mailing:(
