Shaquille O'Neal is paid $26,517,858 a year?! Garnett $29M!? Now thats insane... Thought basketball was like the 3rd sport in the states... Kobe at $13M is getting owned..

You get your facts from Howard Stern? I pity you.

WWE is a publically traded company, I'm doubting that the company would sell for a billion or that Vince owns enough stock to be worth that much personally.

Drake 05-14-2004 03:16 PM

eddie-executive 05-14-2004 03:22 PM

I think Lebron James got $80 million from adidas before he was even in the NBA now thats fucking sweet.

Yeah I imagine soccer players are possibly the highest paid athletes since soccer really is the world's most popular sport.

Heh. You need a subscription to SI. Bastards are giving you a free preview to try to convert you to full membership. Sound familiar?

the max salary in the nba goes by years of experience

sumz 05-14-2004 03:25 PM

Yeah, thatīs gotta be just US. Schumacher and Beckham at least should be on that list.

kimzar 05-14-2004 03:25 PM

true but, his soccer contract is like 8-10 mill a year and he endorses alot of shit just not in the us. didnt he sign a 150 mil contract last year from addias or rebok, don't know for sure but he should be making at least 30 per year

faxxaff 05-14-2004 03:25 PM

This list is not correct. What about Michael Schumacher and David Beckham? Where are they? or is it just a list for US?

this has to be US athletes.

Michael Schumacher would make more than any of those guys for sure.

he was getting paid peanuts, only when he signed that one year 30million deal did he ever make bank, one thing about he he never tried to re-negotiate, he was stuck with the same contract when he 1st signed

faxxaff 05-14-2004 03:29 PM

read about Michael Schumacher's earnings here:

http://www.sportliterate.com/usgp.htm

100 Millions .... much better than adult biz!!!

sperbonzo 05-14-2004 03:44 PM

Michael Schumaker is definitely the highest paid athlete in the World. He is certainly still racing (5 times world champion) and his base salary is up to about 25 million a year....endorsements? got to be over 100 million a year total

silent moan 05-14-2004 03:46 PM

I am an athlete too but I never gain a salary same as they have, I wish I could be counted on the top ten list :(

marko13 05-14-2004 03:55 PM

wow. lebron james before kevin garnet.... unbelivable...

cayne 05-14-2004 04:00 PM

3 LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers
Salary or winnings (including bonuses) $4,018,920
Endorsements and appearance fees $35,000,000
Total income $39,018,920

I think he will be the next No1 - of course only if he plays good.

Proves what you know, Shaq is way more important than Kobe. Football has far fewer games in a season so they can't pay as much as the NBA and baseball is less popular. NBA players make the most.

JimmyJim 05-14-2004 04:01 PM

I think Grant Hill should give back every penny he "stole" from his team; lameduck hasn't played a game since Moses Malone was pounding in the paint ! lol

it's that 'Duke curse" no duke player has made an impact on the NBA....they all just either injured themselves or fade away

Agreed; see "Christian Laetnner" and more recently "Jay Williams", though the circumstances different.

Chichio 05-14-2004 04:06 PM

I think that list is missing a few from Europe. Where's David Beckham?

Except his last three years with the bulls Jordan got about $5 million from playing and about $30, million from endorsements. He got around $30 million from the NBA and $35 million from endorsements his last 3 years with the bulls. When he played for Washington he played for the league minimum to help their salart cap ($1 million for a vet). I don't know what his endorsements were then.

A few other things:

I don't think that fag soccer player is supposed to be on this list

Some of you don't realize this is income in a calendar year, not total worth. MJ has about $400 million.

I think Michael Schumaker got shit on because they didn't consider race car drivers as atheletes.

Racing isn't big here unless its redneck racing, then only in parts, I live in Indianapolis, supposedly the world famous yada yada, no one gives a flying fuck. Although I think it has set a lot of attendance records.

you can't compare jordan's salary with the salary now. it was a completely different time.

faxxaff 05-14-2004 04:46 PM

Ah, almost forgot about him too. Maybe they should re-think the "devil" in the team name :feels-hot

Za Ha 05-14-2004 05:02 PM

The world's highest-salaried athlete pulls in $35 million a year from his racing contract with Ferrari....

I knew right away that a black guy cannot be the #1 paid athlete.
